We have an immediate opportunity for an experienced splicer to work from our Philomath location.

In this position a successful splicer candidate must have knowledge of splicing, termination, and maintenance of copper and fiber optic cables. The Cable Splicer performs cable cutovers, repairs, and troubleshooting on all types of cable plant. This position must be able to exercise judgment within constraints of accepted principles and practices. Decision-making is made in conjunction with supervisors and management.

COPPER EXPERIENCE is preferred over fiber :)

This position also:

  • Prepares and maintains cable splice closures and terminations on fibers and copper cables.
  • Operates and maintains splicing equipment and tools.
  • Performs testing of completed splices and cable pair termination on fiber and copper cables to ensure circuit continuity.
  • Terminates copper cable to main distribution frame connectors and fiber cable to pigtails in splice trays at Central Office locations.
  • Performs cable pair transfers and cut-over work.
  • Performs aerial and buried cable repairs and transfers.
  • Works with new and existing cables in manhole and conduit systems.
  • Completes splicing and cut-over work on routine and specific work orders using engineering prints and cut-over assignment sheets.
  • Completes the splicing and cut over of projects to the specifications of the Engineering Department and standard telephone construction practices.
  • Must be able to read and interpret cable record maps, staking sheets, and work orders required for the Outside Plant splicing.

This position requires:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Lineman, Installation & Repair Technician.
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Safety Code and National Electric Code as related to the communications industry.
  • Understanding of cable color codes and fiber count.
  • Ability to access and understand computerized mapping records.
  • Knowledge of test equipment and the ability to identify the repair needed.
  • Maintaining vehicles and work equipment in clean and safe working order.
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License and insurable record, preferred CDL or ability to acquire within 6 months.

Pay: $26.00 - $40.00 per hour
