The Lead Camp Counselor for the YMCA of Corry is responsible for leading and implementing core and non-core programs and experiences for children in a small group setting. They are responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group. The Lead Camp Counselor is also responsible for overseeing Camp Counselors throughout the camp day.

We are offering Summer Day Camp at Union City School District from Monday June 19th - Friday August 11th. Camp runs 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM Monday through Friday (off July 4th) Counselors work hours are 7:30 AM - 3:00 PM

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs or games.
• Identify and respond to camper behavioral issues.
• Oversee Camp Counselor team.
• Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
• Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences.
• Maintain accurate program records including incident reports, and daily attendance.
• Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
• Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
• Take photos, create/update and email a weekly presentation to parents.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.

ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, canoeing, swimming, team building initiatives, physical games, and activities.
• Must have the ability to physically support children when needed for safety in general camp activities.
• Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials, tools, and objects up to 50 lbs.
• Typical eye-hand-foot coordination.
• Typical physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place.
• Typical verbal, written and non-verbal communication.
• Typical ability to see, distinguish color and hear

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $13.00 - $17.00 per hour
