Campus Security Officer / Part-time Job at Renton Technical College
This hourly (temporary), part-time, classified and overtime eligible position is a member of the Campus Security Department and reports to the Director of Safety and Security under the Department of Student Services. The Temporary Campus Security Officer is responsible for providing shift coverage for the Campus Security department. This position works independently and with other officers as needed. Campus Security Officers are required to report to work when the college is closed due to emergencies. This position is open until filled.

- Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Patrol campus grounds by foot, and department patrol vehicle, assist with vehicle unlocks, jump start requests, and conduct parking enforcement
- Receive incoming phone calls while on duty and self-dispatch with department issued phone.
- Conduct routine security checks of facilities and grounds on a daily basis.
- Lock and unlock buildings and arm and disarm alarms as needed.
- Perform safety and security inspections of AED and other life-safety equipment on a regular basis.
- Understand and enforce all the rules and regulations for the college.
- Provide assistance to faculty, staff and visitors.
- Contact Renton Police for trespass notices and escort trespassers from campus when necessary.
- Provide walking and vehicle escorts for students, faculty, and staff upon request.
- Respond and mitigate fire and security alarms while on shift and on call.
- May be responsible for or assist with the secured delivery of goods.
- Maintain an accurate daily shift log, complete and submit incident reports in a timely manner.
- Contact the police or fire department(s) as needed in the event of emergency. Provide support as needed (directions, building access, scene security, etc.).
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Maintain knowledge of the Jeanne Clery Act and assist in ensuring compliance.
- Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
- Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner and communicate effectively, while using tact, discretion and courtesy even in stressful situations.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- One year of customer service work experience in the security or public safety field; preferred.
- Possess an understanding of local, state and federal laws.
- Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities.
- Proficiency in standard computer applications including Microsoft Office, Outlook, smart phone use and applications, two-way radio system, access control software, video management software, alarm applications, and records management software
- Possess a valid Washington State driver’s license; clean driving record (maximum of one moving violation in the last twelve months, no suspension/revocation of license for reckless driving, hit and run, leaving an accident scene, failure to appear, DUI, or other vehicle-related felony in the last five years.
- Possess or be able to obtain a First Aid, CPR and AED certification. (Training and certification will be provided at no cost to the employee).
- Ability to walk, stand, climb and sit for an 8-hour shift.
- Maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as a team.
- Training in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
- Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
- Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Two Years Prior Security, Law Enforcement, or Military experience.
- One Year Higher Education work experience.
- ICS 100 and IS 700 Incident command training certifications.
- Prior Training and experience with a use of force continuum and defensive tactics.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position may work full or part-time on an on-call basis, for periods of one week to six months, to fill in for permanent staff absences. As an hourly on-call position, there is no predictability or guarantee of the number of hours/days that may be scheduled. Hourly employees maintain an "at-will" employment relationship meaning that either you or the College may terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any reason.

- If selected for an interview, you will be required to submit a current driver's abstract (no more than one [1] month old) to meet the licensing requirement.

Adjunct faculty may become eligible for benefits if they work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only – benefits would begin on the first day of the working month after working 50% or more for two consecutive quarters).
Newly-hired adjunct faculty are eligible for PEBB insurance benefits when they have taught 50 percent or more of a full-time workload* for two consecutive quarters at one or more public higher education institutions, going on benefits the start of the second quarter at 50% or more. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under the Public Employees Benefits Board.
Adjunct faculty who initially meet the State Board Retirement Plan Eligibility criteria after June 30, 2011 are given the option to participate in the State Board Plan (TIA) or to participate in TRS 3, and have 30 days to make a choice. The eligibility threshold for participation in the State Board Retirement Plan (TIA) is 50 percent of a full-time workload* at one or more college districts or the State Board for two consecutive quarters. There may be other options available under limited circumstances.
- Half time is defined as one-half of the full-time academic workload as determined by each institution, except that half time for community and technical colleges faculty employees is governed by RCW 28B.50.489.
