Position Summary:
The Student Success Coach – Ivy Tech will be primarily responsible for supporting Marion County Indiana students to success at Ivy Tech. The Coach will take a proactive, holistic approach to actively intervene with students in real time for the challenges they face as students. The Coach will develop expertise within Ivy Tech and will coordinate with Indy Achieves liaisons in the relevant campus offices. Success Coach will use initiative and persistence to make data driven decisions and maximize completion rates for students. The position is on the Postsecondary team and will be located at EmployIndy and Ivy Tech.
- Individualized Coaching and Educational Services Advising
o Create opportunities for community building amongst students in the cohort (i.e. 21st Century Scholars)
o Provide financial literacy and financial aid assistance, including information on federal student aid, resources for locating scholarships, and FAFSA completion assistance
o Provide career-readiness support, including connecting the student to the Career Coaching and Employer Connection and EmployIndy, connecting students to services such as resume building, networking skills-building, and major-to-career coaching
o Monitor and develop student skills in the areas of academics, time-management, and goal-setting
o Monitor student success metrics using on-campus software and Indy Achieves dashboard to develop individual success plans and provide timely interventions.
o Utilize a variety of media to engage students including Zoom and text message platforms (Hold in-person and Zoom "drop in" hours/office hours for students weekly)
o Maintain accurate records and documentation of services provided
o Understand and refer students with warm handoffs to services available at Ivy Tech and within the community
- Social, Cultural, and Social Coordination
o Participate in weekly/bi-weekly Student Success team meetings
o Identify and/or develop social and leadership opportunities for participants on campus and in the community
o Identify and coordinate local service opportunities for participants
o Create and/or collaborate to provide student success workshops, including but not limited to, the areas of financial stability, skills building, and career preparation
Administrative:
o Collaborate with Indy Achieves personnel around training and strategy at both at Ivy Tech and IUPUI.
o Assist in the evaluation and documentation of program components
o Assist in the marketing of program via new student orientation, faculty/staff engagement, and campus events
o Participate in professional growth activities to remain informed with current retention and success best practices, theories, and technologies
o Collaborate with EmployIndy partners for the purpose of connecting students to resources: mock interviews, internships, career placement
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Required experience working with students in an education, support service, or related field
- Minimum of two years of experience working with youth or adults, specifically those who are low-income, first generation, or from diverse communities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of individuals who are traditionally underrepresented in post-secondary education and knowledge of issues affecting their college retention and success
- Knowledge of academic support services, financial aid/literacy, and career assessment techniques
- Ability to problem solve
- Familiarity with social and emotional student development activities
- Ability to manage a high caseload of students and prioritize engagement appropriately
- High initiative, creative and ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- Evidence of computer literacy
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and organizational skills required
- Knowledge of Ivy Tech and IUPUI
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends
- Ability to travel for training and meetings
