Position: Caregiver

Licenses or Certificates: Valid Driver’s License, OSHA 30 Hour, First Aide/CPR; Nonviolent Behavioral Intervention Certification

JOB SUMMARY: Caregiver is responsible for undertaking routine, non-technical activities that foster the well-being of all the Noncitizens/detainees in U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) custody. Caregiver is also responsible for facilitating a variety of services to include maintaining a safe working environment, observing, and encouraging adherence to safety rules and health guidelines.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Will adhere to the Prison Rape Elimination Act and report any incident or situations of inappropriate conduct immediately in adherence to the reporting and documenting policies and procedures.
- Will serve as a member of the Support Staff to assist in assessing and addressing operation needs such as monitoring the entering and exiting of shower areas.
- Assist as necessary in monitoring, caring, and bathing children. Including general care of children changing diapers, assisting with toilet use and handwashing, feeding and tending to other similar basic needs as needed.
- Will ensure a high level of quality services and care according to industry safety standards commensurate with those required of Caregivers employed at state-licensed daycare facility in the relevant state.
- Will assist CBP with ordering and distribution of meals to detainees under their care as delivered to the facility.
- Will maintain an inventory of the clothing, towels, hygiene kits and supplies and maintain a clean, organized and labeled inventory area.
- Must assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the program grounds and surrounding workstations.
- Must ensure that there are no safety hazards and must react proactively to prevent immediate harm to detainees or other staff.
- Must be responsible for appropriate storage of government-furnished clothing in designated shelves and issuing to detainees as necessary. Must ensure logging all inventory entering and exiting the storage area.
- Will ensure the coordination of laundering detainee’s own clothes, issuance of temporary government provided clothing and returning personal clothing to detainees.
- May perform other duties as assigned or requested to support the safety, care, and supervision of detainees.
STANDARD REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 21 years of age or older to work directly with detainees.
- Must maintain any licensures/certifications during employment and/or obtain within required timeframes, if approved.
- Must maintain confidentiality in all program areas including any information regarding detainees.
- Maintain confidentiality of health care records and information in keeping with HIPAA and Protected Health Information (PHI) requirements.
- Maintain professional conduct and ensure appropriate respectful interactions during any contact with detainees, program staff and CBP officers/representatives.
- Enforces safety and security standards for detainees, staff, and visitors.
- Clear MVR Check.
- Clear Background Check.
- Clear drug testing results.
- Clear Tuberculosis results.
- Proof of COVID Vaccinations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- GED/High School Diploma required.
- 1 year of experience working in a child-care or shelter setting preferred. Internship or volunteer hours may be included or Associates degree in related field may be considered in lieu of experience.
- Knowledge of OSHA and Food Handlers regulations preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Caregiver will work in-person on-site at the assigned facility.
- Shifts will include an 8-hour period in the time zone where the facility is located, working 5-days a week within a 24/7-day work week.
- The work week may not consist of a traditional Monday through Friday work schedule and working holidays are required.
- Work is conducted in a 24-hour facility setting where the primary language of detainees is Spanish.
- Noise levels will vary indoors and outdoors.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
- Work environment may include working in offices, either indoors or outdoors.
- Position requires a great deal of standing, walking, stooping, squatting, kneeling and heavy lifting. Can also involve sitting for extended periods to ensure that documentation is entered in a timely manner.
