Longwood Gardens is seeking a full-time Carpenter to perform day-to-day repairs, rough-in, and finish work for various structures and displays throughout our gardens. Responsibilities include:

The ideal candidate will have a successful completion of an apprenticeship program or 4 years of demonstrated field experience. Additional requirements include:

Longwood Gardens is seeking a full-time Carpenter to perform day-to-day repairs, rough-in, and finish work for various structures and displays throughout our gardens. Responsibilities include:
- Building display mock-ups.
- Building and installing seasonal displays throughout the gardens.
- Installing and repairing windows, and personnel and overhead doors.
- Other repairs or installations include: drywall, trim, insulation, roofs, gutters framing, tables, cabinets, shelving, carpet, countertops, benches, fencing, guardrail, ceilings, signage, platforms, and greenhouse glass roof replacement.
- Working with a broad range of building materials such as wood, plexiglass, sheetrock, Formica, Masonite, PVC, etc., some of which may be historic.
- Operating hand and power tools such as a table saw, panel saw, joiner, router, planer, air nailer, miter saw, circular saw, cordless power tools, etc.
- Planning, organizing, ordering needed materials, and prioritizing individual work orders assigned.
- Supporting emergency needs such as snow removal operations
Must be able to work alone and in a team, be willing to learn new skills and adapt to changing jobs.
The ideal candidate will have a successful completion of an apprenticeship program or 4 years of demonstrated field experience. Additional requirements include:
- Aerial lift and forklift operator’s licenses, or must be able to obtain these licenses upon first year of employment.
- Demonstrated ability to operate the tools of the trade and to work with other trades.
- Familiarity with email, internet, and Microsoft Office products.
- Strong decision-making, communication, analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work at heights on ladders, stairs, and scaffolding; and use specialized equipment to access, climb, and repair glass on greenhouse roofs.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds; stand and sit for extended periods; and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
