Position Summary:

Manages, supervises, and coordinates the activities and operations for applicable desktop hardware, software, and infrastructure along with managing the Systems and Application Specialists (desktop/hardware) Team within the organization; identifies, recommends, develops, implements, and supports cost-effective hardware and desktop technology solutions for all aspects of the organization; supports users in academic, clinical and research departments/units.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Leads the effective and efficient delivery of the Desktop Support Function to ensure the ongoing service provided is proactive, professional and business focused.
2. Provides team leadership and coordination of projects, tasks, and initiatives ensuring accurate and timely resource allocation and project staffing.
3. Keeps immediate supervisor well-informed of activities and recommends corrective actions.
4. Develops and maintains an excellent working relationship with other IT departments/schools/clinics, ensuring the organization is well received and presented professionally and positively.
5. Develops and manages technology budget and monitors and approves related expenditures.
6. Prepares and submits project plans and progress reports establishing policies and management controls to stay within the planned budget and timelines as well as project status.
7. Assists with the development of and manages the adherence to established and documented processes, tools, and best practices.
8. Designs and implements special projects and/or equipment (entire research systems and/or clinical rollout/acquisitions: computers, instruments, data acquisition, communication, and security).
9. Troubleshoots advanced level issues and provides support/direction to staff. May perform desktop duties in smaller departments/units: Installs, configures, maintains, repairs specialized systems/applications and provides system support in a networked environment.
10. Interacts with other departments/units on a troubleshooting and knowledge sharing basis.
11. Researches, recommends, and purchases specific hardware and software for the department/unit/clinic setups.
12. Maintains inventory information of servers, desktops, research and clinical systems.
13. Introduces/advise new technologies, solutions, and alternatives to support changing business and operational needs in either clinics or department/school research areas.
14. Administers and manages the replacement cycle for administrative desktops to include specifications, acquisition, scheduling, and retuning of leased equipment.
15. Approves all IT lease and purchase requests.
16. Manages the desktop group to ensure the implementation and maintenance of all equipment which encompasses Hardware/Software and Software licensing.
17. Coordinates with outside vendors in IT related solutions and projects.
18. Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations and salary planning.
19. Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • MCSE preferred
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience in lieu of education. Advanced degree preferred.

Minimum Experience:

Seven years of related experience including 2 years of supervision of IT staff required.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
