Summary
Performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a clinical staff. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician, physician assistant and registered nurse. Assists the professional staff in maintaining a safe therapeutic environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Schedules appointments for patients.
- Shows patients to examination rooms and prepares them for the physician.
- Interviews patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
- Records patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records.
- Prepares and administers medications as directed by a physician.
- Collects blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
- Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients.
- Assists physicians examine and treat patients, handing instruments or materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures.
- Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments and disposes of contaminated supplies.
- Adheres to work the work schedule as designated by the supervisor to ensure continuity of care for the patient and maintenance of staffing matrix for the client.
- Responds to “code” or patient crisis as set forth by the sites policy and procedure.
- Assists health care practitioner as assigned.
- Adheres to infection control techniques and principles.
- Provides for emotional and physical comfort and safety of patients.
- Assists in maintaining working areas, supplies, and equipment in good working order.
- Assists in the maintenance of a safe, comfortable facility environment; obtains, stores, and maintains nursing supplies; cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
- Current Certified Medical Assistant. Must maintain a current copy of the permit on file in the facility at all times.
- Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience preferred.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
- Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
- Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
- Must be able to use computer and the software application packages used by the facility.
