Salary: This is a part-time only position. Pay for this part-time position is $26.00 per hour, with no benefits available.
Anticipated Begin Date: Applications will continue to be accepted on a continuous basis, even when there are no vacancies. However, when a vacancy does occur, qualified candidates from the existing applicant pool will be contacted for an interview.
To apply for this position, you must be eligible for hire at the Russell County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), complete an RCSO screening and be recommended by the RCSO for employment. CVCC and the Russell County Sheriff’s Department work in partnership to provide campus security. Time worked per week will not exceed nineteen (19) hours.
Qualifications
CVCC and the Russell County Sheriff’s Department work in partnership to provide campus security. To apply for this position, you must be eligible for hire at the Russell County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), complete an RCSO screening and be recommended by the RCSO for employment.
After being recommended by the Russell County Sheriff’s Office for employment, the applicant must meet the following qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED certificate
- Two years of directly related experience
- Completion of Alabama Peace Officers Training APOST (in accordance with Administrative Code Chapter 650-X-3)
- Ability to meet and maintain requirements for a Certified Law Enforcement Officer (in accordance with Administrative Code Chapter 650-X-4)
- Ability to carry a registered weapon; must have no restrictions for obtaining concealed weapon permit
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations
- Ability to administer CPR and First Aid
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to meet the public in a friendly and receptive manner
- Knowledge of College safety and security issues and procedures
- Effective oral and written communication skills; proficiency in the English language
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Proactively patrol campus, on foot or by motor vehicle, on a regular basis.
- React quickly and calmly in emergency situations, and determine the proper course of action.
- Investigate complaints, disturbances, and accidents.
- Ensure that all investigations are properly documented.
- Provide traffic control and enforcement.
- Monitor cameras for campus safety issues
- Check doors and locks, and respond to lockouts.
- Provide escorts when requested.
- Provide assistance related to minor vehicular issues (keys locked in car, dead battery, etc.) to students, faculty, and staff.
- Make special mail deliveries.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

INTERVIEW PROCESS:
The Recruitment and Selection Committee will screen all applicants for the position and select applicants for interviews. Interviews may consist of the following activities: question/answer session and/or skills demonstration. Upon completion of the interviews, the Committee will recommend a finalist for the position to the appropriate dean and the President, after which final employment decisions will be made.
The College reserves the right to fill the position within one year of the stated anticipated starting date or not to fill the position due to budgetary or operational considerations. Further, the College reserves the right to fill more than one position in the same job classification should another vacancy occur during the search process.

In accordance with Alabama Community College System policy and guidelines, the applicant selected for employment will be required to sign a consent form and to submit payment for a criminal background check.
