Job Description

The Chemist will work primarily on Research and Development projects within the Specialty Polyurethanes (SPU) business unit. This individual is responsible for optimizing cost and performance of existing and new chemical formulations, binders, and spray elastomers. This encompasses assurance that raw material specifications align with processing specifications, equipment capabilities, as well as the design and performance requirements of products used in building envelope systems. This position will research latest technologies while using laboratory and coating processing equipment to create new test methods, formulations, and processing techniques. This position will require knowledge on impingement spray systems or capability to learn impingement spray machines. Effective communication of this knowledge will be demonstrated by sharing and teaching those within and outside our organization. This position will operate under the general guidance of R&D Manager, SPU.


Job Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, implement, and sustain chemical formulations for polyurethane and polyurea coatings and binders
  • Document results and conclusions of tests
  • Develop new tests
  • Will teach methods as needed
  • R&D and quality laboratory testing
  • R&D chemical formulations
  • Produce pilot batches in plant for R&D
  • Operate and maintain foam processing machine
  • Operate and troubleshoot test equipment
  • Improving methods to ensure date repeatability and reproducibility


Education and Experience

  • BS, MS, or PhD of Science in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science (or related technical discipline) is preferred. Candidates with other relevant industry experience may be considered
  • Experience with polyurethanes, developing 2K polyurethanes or 2K polyurea coatings experience necessary
  • 2+ years as an Chemist, Scientist or Engineer in a manufacturing plant, test lab, or R&D facility
