*Title: *Senior Credit Officer *Department: *Commercial Credit *FLSA Status*: Exempt *Location:* Administration; Old Bridge, NJ *Schedule*: Full-time; Monday - Friday *Position Summary* The Senior Credit Officer of credit policy oversees and manages the activities of the credit administration and policy functions. The incumbent develops, revises, maintains, and executes loan policies and procedures for the institution. The director of credit administration advises and provides guidance on loan policy, ensuring policies are applied effectively and procedures are followed to maintain adequate credit quality within the loan portfolio and minimize risk and losses to the bank. *Essential Functions* · Develop and implement sound credit policy in compliance with federal, state and local regulations as well as the bank’s goals and objectives. · Review loan presentations for new loan requests, modifications, and extensions to ensure compliance with policy. · Review and approve the risk rating for commercial loans, annual loan reviews, and risk rating changes. · Interpret loan policy and procedures for the credit staff, loan officers, and managers. · Prepare and maintain the minutes of the Senior Credit and Special Asset Credit Committees. · Manage the independent appraisal program; review and accept all commercial appraisals. · Manage the independent environmental program; review and accept all environmental reports. · Manage the work of the credit administration staff, assign specific duties, and ensure adherence to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures, correcting errors or problems as needed. · Manage assigned vendor relationships. · Evaluate staff members’ job performance, including personal, interpersonal, and technical knowledge, skills, abilities, on a regular basis as determined by company procedures, and recommend appropriate actions. · Develop and implement new policies and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the credit department; interpret and communicate work procedures and bank policies to staff members. · Communicate with people outside the organization on a regular basis including vendors, regulators, auditors, customers, and attorneys. · Maintain technical and professional knowledge by attending educational workshops and training, obtaining relevant professional certifications, reviewing professional publications and books, establishing personal networks, participating in professional associations, and staying informed of any legal, policy and procedural changes relating to commercial credit. · Keep informed of industry changes, trends, and best practices, and assess the potential impact on processes and procedures. *Additional Functions* *Job Requirements* · Willingness to lead, take charge, make decisions, and offer opinions, advice, and direction. · Willingness to be accountable and take ownership of assigned roles and responsibilities. · Willingness to make decisions using a mixture of analysis, experience, and judgment to find effective solutions. · Using critical thinking, logic, and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. · Developing constructive and cooperative relationships with others. · Honesty, integrity, and ethical behavior, the consideration of ethical standards before making decisions, and keeping promises. · Keeping confidences, operating at the highest standard of confidentiality, and behaving in a manner that engenders trust and openness. · Willingness to take on responsibility and challenges. *Qualifications* *Education and Experience* · Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field. · Ten years of related experience including credit policy analysis and regulatory practices. *Licenses and Certifications* N/A *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities* · Expert knowledge of economic, accounting, and finance principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data. · Expert knowledge of commercial credit underwriting concepts. · Expert knowledge of commercial lending best practices, policies, and procedures, including local, state and federal regulations. · Excellent oral and written communication skills. · Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including proficiency in Word and Excel. · High reasoning skills including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. · Ability to understand new information and apply it to current and future job functions, problem solving, and decision making. · Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages. · Ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret legal documents, governmental regulations, and professional publications. · Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from senior management, attorneys, vendors, government agents, and the general public. · Ability to write reports and business correspondence. · Ability to work independently with little supervision. · Ability to provide indirect supervision to subordinate staff members. *Physical Requirements* · Ability to sit for long periods of time up to 90% of work hours. · Ability to use hands to grasp, handle or feel. · Ability to use computer keyboard and system to enter data and process information. · Ability to read a computer screen at a close distance. · Ability to read, talk clearly so that others understand, hear, comprehend the written and spoken word, and see. · Ability to use telephone to communicate with others. · Ability to use office equipment such as teller scanner, personal computer, telephone, mobile device, copier, etc. *Working Conditions* · Moderate sound as in business office with office machines, computers, and people traffic. *All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, age, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status or disability.* *This job description is not an employment agreement or contract, implied or otherwise.
