Description: What you'll be doing:Another Source’s client, Crisis Connections, is recruiting a Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer to join their team in Seattle, WA. This will be the organization’s first Chief Diversity Officer and a hybrid opportunity working remotely 2-3 days per week. For the days you will be working on-site, there is free parking offered on-site in Downtown Seattle!

With the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer’s expertise, they will help the organization advance equity and inclusion within the operations of the organization, as well as in the services provided. There are strong commitments and support from the CEO, senior executive leadership team, and the Board, as they are invested in supporting diversity focused initiatives to guide Crisis Connections at all levels.

Crisis Connections offers an array of support services that are free and easily accessible addressing “all things crisis”. Our core programs include: the 24-Hour Crisis Line, King County 2-1-1, Teen Link, WA Warm Line, WA Recovery Help Line, and support after suicide services. With over 350 trained volunteers and 225 staff, CC provides support, resources and certified training for King County and other communities statewide.

And in July of 2020, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted rules to establish 9-8-8 as the new, nationwide, 3-digit phone number for Americans in crisis to connect with suicide prevention and mental health crisis counselors. The Crisis Connections 9-8-8 call center supports and serves the state’s most densely populated and highest needs of the state.

The Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer (CDIO) is a member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for making sure Crisis Connections (CC) has a welcoming work and volunteer environment for people of all genders, races, cultures, ages, sexual orientation and abilities. Intersecting with human resources, programs, marketing/communications, volunteer services and board of trustees, the CDIO encourages and supports diversity through company culture, staff and volunteer training, workplace activities and recruitment.

The CDIO ensures that policies, practices, procedures, and strategic planning advance equity and inclusion. The CDIO works in collaboration with the CEO and executive leadership to guarantee the successful creation and implementation of key policies, practices, and procedures that advance equity and inclusion within the operations of the organization, as well as in the services provided.

Responsibilities of the Role:*

  • Serves as a primary leader and strategic partner in shaping an equitable and inclusive organization. Achieves this by collaborating with CEO, senior leaders, employees, board and community partners.
  • Provides strategy and consultation to internal stakeholders on equity, inclusion, and belonging. Supports actions to address problematic behaviors, management practices and policies that are counter to furthering DEI.
  • Provides strategy and consultation on internal and external programming, including training, affinity groups, volunteer management, and community engagement.
  • Develops processes and systems to evaluate and measure the impact of equity and inclusion initiatives. Facilitates process for setting program and organizational diversity goals.
  • Provides strategy and consultation to HR to ensure that equity issues in employee relations, data analysis and from exit interviews are addressed, as well as equal employment and other regulations are followed.
  • Provide guidance to internal and external communications toward strengthening the organizational communication strategy in ways that reach a diverse set of audiences.
  • Serves as a primary leader and strategic partner in shaping equitable community partnership frameworks and best practices.
  • Directs staff and volunteer training initiatives on cultural competency, gender differences, disability, sexual harassment, building a climate of equity and inclusion, and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values.
  • Oversee relationship building work in the community to increase utilization of CC services in communities that have been historically underserved by the Crisis Response and health & human services systems
  • Support leaders in assessing program outcomes through an equity lens, assess gaps in training/knowledge of staff and volunteers, and create plans to address those gaps.
  • Oversees the organization’s equity budget.
  • Cultivates relationships with key stakeholders – internally and externally – to advance the organization’s equity and inclusion initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:*

  • Minimum of seven years’ experience leading racial equity and inclusion strategic planning, policy, and initiatives at a leadership level.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Diversity certification a plus
