The YWCA Knoxville & the Tennessee Valley has been serving women and their families in East Tennessee since 1899. Currently, the YWCA Knoxville & the Tennessee Valley serves clients from all backgrounds, across six counties (Anderson, Blount, Knox, Loudon, Roane and Sevier) at three locations: Phyllis Wheatley Center, Downtown Knoxville, and Oak Ridge.
The YWCA provides safe, affordable housing to women and their families. The YWCA empowers victims of domestic violence with the tools they need to escape their abusers. The YWCA’s innovative GameChangers program encourages boys and men to prevent violence against women and girls. Students at the Phyllis Wheatley Center participate in evidence-based programs design to help them succeed in school and beyond. The YWCA encourages healthy living with the affordable Club W membership program.

YWCA Knoxville & the Tennessee Valley seeks a passionate, execution focused leader to serve as its next CEO. Building on YWCA’s legacy of high community impact and client-focused services, the CEO will be tasked with leading the organization’s future. The CEO will rely on their business savvy, agility, and growth mindset to achieve the organization’s goals. As the chief spokesperson and ambassador for the organization, the CEO will build critical alliances with stakeholders and raise organization awareness. The CEO will ensure organizational programming is top-notch and will utilize best-practices for detailed financial management and reporting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Strategic Leadership & Board Partnership
The CEO stays abreast of environmental factors that impact the nonprofit and social services sectors and is agile when needed. The CEO provides decisive, empathetic, leadership during challenging times to both the staff and board. The CEO promotes and models an organization that embraces and encourages eliminating racism and empowering women through justice, compassion, integrity, and respect. The CEO fosters an organizational culture that assures open and frequent communication, teamwork, appreciation for racial justice and a passion for the mission.
The CEO serves on the YWCA Knoxville Foundation Board in an ex-officio capacity. Provides support and acts as a conduit of information between the YWCA Knoxville Foundation Board and the YWCA Board of Directors.
Public Relations & Community Engagement
The CEO is responsible for the overall impact of the YWCA’s work to increase visibility, advocacy, and drive the mission in the community. Expected to develop relationships and partnerships with leaders in the community, including those representing the highest levels in the business, government, and nonprofit sectors. Forms and maintains effective working relationships and communication with the YWCA USA and other YWCA associations. Serves as agency’s key spokesperson, actively and strategically promoting the organizations mission with external audiences for the primary purpose of advocating for and securing resources that move the agency’s vision forward.
Fundraising & Revenue Development
The CEO is charged to drive key results in fund development by identifying, cultivating, and soliciting current and prospective donors. Collaborate with development staff and Board of Directors to secure philanthropic and related revenue.
Financial
The CEO oversees the financial operations ensuring that sound fiscal and risk management practices are in place to improve the organization’s financial strength. The CEO develops long- and short-range financial plans, monitors the budget, and assures leading financial practices. Ensures that the flow of funds permits the YWCA to make continuous progress towards the achievement of its mission and that those funds are allocated properly to reflect present needs and future potential.
Programs & Services
The CEOassures that the services provided remain relevant and responsive to community need based on formalized needs assessments, outcome data, focus groups, surveys and other appropriate measurable methods.
Facilities
The CEO ensures the delivery of high-quality services while managing for current and future facility needs and growth. The CEO oversees facility planning and management and building operations of all facilities owned or occupied by YWCA clients, programs, and staff. The CEO develops and oversees capital improvement plans.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
· Extensive senior strategic and business leadership experience in organizations of comparable size and mission.
· High level of emotional intelligence, intellectual curiosity, agility, and a desire to explore new ideas and innovative approaches to solving problems.
· Ability to foster a healthy organizational culture by creating an environment characterized by high levels of employee engagement, commitment to racial justice and empowerment of women and high performance developed through teamwork and collaboration.
· Experience in building revenue, managing P&Ls, creating sustainable operating models and increasing philanthropic support.
· A proven track record of promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging with an ability to build collaboration with the team and community at large.
· Demonstrated expertise at developing partnerships, building teams, and conflict management.
· Must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
· 8 to 10 years of experience in or across multiple sectors, including nonprofit, public, and corporate environments.
· Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, plan and coordinate operations within a multi-unit organization.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
A master’s degree or higher from an accredited U.S. college or university is preferred.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
The salary range is $100,000-$110,000 annually.
