Summary:
The Eighth Judicial District of the Iowa Judicial Branch is seeking candidates for the Chief Juvenile Court Officer position. The position is located in Southeast Iowa, and includes the counties of Appanoose, Davis, Des Moines, Henry, Jefferson, Keokuk, North Lee, South Lee, Louisa, Mahaska, Monroe, Poweshiek, Van Buren, Wapello, and Washington. Domicile to be determined depending on candidate selected.

Responsibilities:
Under the administrative direction of the Chief Judge of the judicial district, performs responsible administrative and supervisory work in directing Juvenile Court Services. The person in this position is appointed according to statute. This position administers Juvenile Court Services in the counties of the 8th Judicial District.

The Chief Juvenile Court Officer I provides leadership not only to Juvenile Court Services staff, but acts as a community leader and provides vision and offers direction to all agencies that provide services to at-risk youth. The CJCO I collaborates with law enforcement to provide a coordinated response to juvenile crime.

The CJCO I formulates and implements effective programming and oversees responsible budget management. The CJCO I is often the first contact with state agencies and legislative issues. On behalf of the CJCOs, this position may act as a liaison with state agencies, legislature, statewide entities and other parties.

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, psychology, sociology or a related social science field with at least ten years of experience in a juvenile or criminal justice or related setting.

OR

Substitution of twenty-four hours of graduate level course work in a special program curriculum such as Social Work, Law, Education, Juvenile or Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field for each year of the required experience to a maximum substitution of two years.
Supervisory experience required. Candidates must possess a valid Iowa driver’s license.
