Take responsibility for a wide range of ad hoc activities on behalf of the CSMO, enabling him to
scrutinize and prioritize tasks that require his focus:

- Help direct reports of the CSMO and their teams interpret, understand and carry out the vision and
- strategic intent.
- Help the CSMO prioritize projects and business activity so that the CSMO and his direct reports
- are moving forward with only the most important work.
- Exercise exceptional discretion with confidential information to keep the CSMO apprised of what is
- going on across the organization and, where possible, keep the organization aware of what is going
- on at the top.
- Manage business cycles such as recurrent leadership meetings and governance processes on
- behalf of the CSMO.
- Provide analysis, recommendations and options to the CSMO regarding decisions to be made or
- problems to be solved.
- Attend and facilitate complex, cross departmental discussions to ensure that good decisions are
- reached. Be capable and willing to challenge those more senior and ensure that decisions are
- carried out.
- Serve as a thought partner to the CSMO, offering the CSMO and his direct reports perspectives
- they may not see, uncovering or helping the team to uncover new possibilities and challenging
- ideas before they are brought to action.
- Manage risk by bridging interdepartmental gaps, by connecting the executive to what is really going
- on in the organization. Maintain continuity during leadership changes and offer a feedback loop for
- behaviors that don’t meet long-term growth objectives.
