We invite you to join our team today!What you will be doing: Under the direction of the Water or/Wastewater Division Manager, provides active supervision of plant operations and serves as Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) for all aspects of the water or wastewater plant operations.. Responsible for complying with all State and Federal drinking water or wastewater regulations. This work consists of supervisory and/or technical work in the operations, servicing and maintenance of the water plant or wastewater plant facilities.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential DutiesProvides technical expertise in all phases of plant operations and solves complex problems covering any aspect of operations.Ensures sampling and laboratory testing procedures meet permit requirements and health report requirements of the State of Colorado, determine treatment requirements, and progress of treatment.Responsible for reporting, maintaining records of operations, reading meters and controls, to meet all State of Colorado requirements.Maintains plant compliance within all operating parameters. Oversees preventative maintenance of plant and pumping facilities to monitor proper equipment operations.Directs processing control adjustments as needed to meet operating parameters.Maintains security of facility area to prevent theft or vandalism.Manages and oversees contracts and the work of vendorsPerforms related work as required and assigned. Supervisory/AdministrativeSupervises and works with plant operators in various maintenance and operational activities and projects; assigns work to each staff member and trains employees when required.Assists and advises Water/Wastewater Division Manager with needs for upcoming budgets and projects.Makes written reports on operations of water plant.Responds to citizen inquiries and provides reports and information as required.In conjunction with upper management, hires, fires, disciplines and evaluates plant operators.Ensures operators maintain proper licenses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Five years of progressive responsible experience in Water/ Wastewater Plant Operations. One-year experience supervising operator personnel. A combination of education and experience may be considered.CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONSClass “A” Water or Wastewater License as appropriate, from the State of Colorado.Valid Colorado Driver’s License and satisfactory driving recordMust be available to work on-call and emergency duties.

Knowledge of: plant operations, state and local government reporting. Experience in preparing facility operating budgets. Skills in: the use of standard office and water management software. Ability to work effectively with other employees, contractors, and the general public; manage an operating budget to assure facilities are within the budget; make recommendations for improving the operation of facilities; exercise initiative, make sound independent decisions, deal with non-routine matters and assist in routine managerial decisions; train other operators; read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and periodicals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations; communicate effectively, both orally and in written form; define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Environmental Factors: Work is performed in an inside environment with occasional work outside. Work may involve competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines. Tasks are constantly exposed to exposure to chemicals, moderate noise levels and work inside. Tasks are frequently exposed to extreme temperatures, gases/fumes/dust, high noise levels, vibrations, light power equipment operations, and frequent local travel is required. Employee may occasionally work outside, walk on uneven surfaces, work at height, heavy equipment operations, work in traffic, and out of town travel may occasionally be required. Physical Factors: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly grasping, fingering and handling items as well as talking and hearing. Employee will frequently be sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time, use of near visual acuity and frequently moving objects weighing over 10 pounds. Occasionally tasks require stooping, kneeling, squatting, balancing, reaching, moving objects weighing 50-100 pounds, use of far visual acuity, depth perception, color discrimination and peripheral vision. Employee may rarely have some tasks requiring running.
