Job Description:
The RN, with a focus on patient safety, is required to function within the parameters of the legal scope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practice setting. The RN functions under his or her own license and assumes accountability and responsibility for quality of care provided to patients and their families according to the standards of nursing practice.7 The RN demonstrates responsibility for continued competence in nursing practice, and develops insight through reflection, self-analysis, self-care, and lifelong learning.
SHIFT AND SCHEDULE
Full Time
7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
- Provide an appropriate climate for learning, and facilitate the child, teen, adult learning process; an environment supportive to learning and sharing
- Provide education related to the childbirth/lactation to siblings, parent(s) (including teen parents), family members and/or support persons, and the community at large in accordance with the policies and procedures of the facility, and current childbirth education curriculum.
- Teach in a style that is effective & understandable through the use of various technology venues.
- Performing follow-up phones after the patient is discharged from facility
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- One year of clinical nursing experience with emphasis in Women’s & Children’s Services.
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Texas
- ADN required; BSN preferred.
- Certification in area of specialty (e.g. OB, MNN, IBCLC, CBC) preferred.
- Current BLS upon hire
- Previous experience in providing education a plus

- Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.
