Barr Circulation Assistant (RFT)

St. Louis Public Library

In this role you will:

• Perform circulation functions, including check-outs, returns, delivery, and receipt of Library materials and mail.
• Process Library cards and payments for customers.
• Provide reference assistance for customers via face-to-face and telephone interactions, including locating items in the collection and looking up information.
• Provide assistance to customers with Library equipment.
• Provide assistance to staff as needed.
• Assist with other library related projects.

You will need to be:

• Friendly, patient, and comfortable assisting customers from varying cultural and economic backgrounds.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.
• Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from customers and staff.
• Flexible, positive, and willing to work with staff and colleagues to successfully overcome challenges.

You will need to have:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with previous customer service experience.
• Strong communication and organization skills.
• Computer skills and knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Windows

  • Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Calendar)

Hours for this position are:

Monday 11:5-8:15, Tuesday-Thursday 9:15-6:15, alternating Friday/Saturday 8:45-5:15. Some Sundays. Hours subject to change.

• Opened September 17, 1906
• First Carnegie Library built at SLPL
• Historic building renovated in 1996
• Creative Experience, a digital makerspace with 3D printers, large-format printing, a recording room, virtual reality and more, was added in 2020

• Two meeting rooms (one small conference room and a multipurpose room)

About the neighborhood:

Barr is part of the Gate District East neighborhood, a neighborhood situated near Jefferson and Highway 44. A vibrant, diverse neighborhood, the Gate District is experiencing growth and new construction, including a farm-to-table restaurant just down the block. Barr is also centrally located to the Lafayette Square, Fox Park, and McKinley Heights neighborhoods.
