The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit is seeking qualified applicants for full-time Classroom Assistants to support our Early Intervention program. The location for these positions is Latrobe Elementary School in Latrobe, PA. This is a 184-day position.

The starting pay rate for this position is $14.49 per hour, and the benefit package includes: medical/dental/vision coverage (or rebate for health insurance premium if employee does not participate in health insurance coverage), 10 sick days per school year, 3 PTO days per school year, and life insurance.

Minimum Education: AA/AS or 2 Years of Post-Secondary Study or Rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through a State or local assessment

Minimum Experience: 0-3 years experience

The classroom assistant assists teachers in the educating and training of special education children. The assistant's role is to increase the potential effectiveness of the professional and increase the quality of instruction by freeing the teacher from the non-instructional activities of the classroom. The classroom assistant is not responsible for the design, direction or evaluation of the teaching-learning process. A classroom assistant may be used in any instructional situation only under the direct, immediate supervision of a certified professional to perform those tasks specified in the job description. The role of the assistant varies according to the program assignment.

Additional requirements for this position include the following clearances: Act 34, 114 (federal criminal history) and 151 PA Child Abuse History. Act 126 training, School Personnel Health Record (physical), and TB test result are also required.
