    The Clinical Informatics Department for Patient Care Services supports the nursing department and ancillaries within MMC, serving as the liaison between clinicians and the IT Department. We leverage data and technologies to improve clinical workflows, quality, and patient outcomes with a focus on optimization of the Electronic Health Record (EHR). We are a very engaged team responsible for new employee EHR training and serve as an integral part of clinical quality and transformational projects. We work closely with many different disciplines to influence how technology can best serve the clinician and enhance the patient experience.

    Position is typically M-F, 8a-5p , but does require some weekends/nights on occasion.

    Position Summary
      The Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) supports the mission and vision of Maine Medical Center through integrating healthcare sciences, computer science and information science as they relate to the efficient and safe delivery of patient and family centered care that is compassionate, evidence-based, and of the highest quality. This role is responsible for the planning, analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation of technology in the acute care clinical setting. The CIS serves as the liaison between clinical staff and IT, providing insight into workflow issues or enhancements. The CIS works in collaboration with multidisciplinary patient care teams in performing workflow analysis and audits to identify and address areas for performance improvement related to efficiency, compliance and quality patient care. This role coordinates classroom or virtual learning opportunities for new and existing employees and students, and develops and delivers training curriculums to meet the needs of all learner types. The CIS leads large, diverse projects in different phases of the system development life cycle. Flexibility to work nights, evening and weekend shifts in support of special projects may be required.
    Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Informatics, Business Administration, Education or other related fields required. Experience with project management methodology or master’s preferred.
    • License/Certifications: Requires current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maine. Epic certifications preferred. Candidates without Epic certification will be required to obtain credentialed status within six months of hire date to permit continued employment.
    • Experience: Requires 3-5 years of relevant clinical and training experience.
      • Minimum 2 years clinical informatics experience preferred.
      • Minimum 2 years of experience in project management, quality or process improvement preferred.
    • Requires the ability to think creatively, work independently, investigate and analyze issues, requests, and projects related to clinical applications.
    • Requires highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Requires demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint). Familiarity with MS Visio, SharePoint, and OneNote preferred.
    • Requires a high level of organization skills, effective time management and delegation strategies that include the ability to rapidly prioritize and adjust work flow according to changing priorities.
    • Ability to learn, train and support major clinical computer systems.
