The construction materials testing special inspector will be responsible for conducting field-testing to verify that work is performed per the details in the permitted plans and specifications. The job requires extended periods of time working outdoors with moderate to heavy (40lbs+) lifting. The job requires to work in a construction environment, where you may be exposed to heavy equipment and hazardous material. Must be able to walk over uneven terrain, up and down ladders and ramps, and stand continuously throughout the day. Applicants are required to complete a background investigation, drug screening and driving record review.

Responsibilities and Duties

· Perform concrete preplacement formwork and reinforcement inspections, concrete placement inspections and testing, etc.

· Perform soils (select fills, moisture conditioning) testing (moisture/density testing, rolling pattern, proof rolling observation, sampling, etc.) and drilled pier inspection.

· Perform masonry construction inspections and testing.

· Perform post- installed structural anchors in concrete (post-tension).

· Perform wood framing construction inspections.

· Perform fireproofing and fire stopping inspections.

· Communicate and coordinate with dispatcher for daily assignments.

· Prepare detailed and accurate field reports within one (1) working day of completion of inspection.

· Properly document hours worked on a daily basis to assist in client billing efforts.

· Responsible for the safe usage and maintenance and calibrating testing equipment, including documentation of such calibration.

· Responsible for the safe usage and maintenance of individually assigned company vehicle.

· Represent the company in a professional manner when communicating with clients, coworkers, project managers and others.

· Must follow and enforce all safety standards.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Skill Requirements

· Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

· Accuracy, attention to detail and timeliness with project results.

· Obtain at least one of the following certifications within 2 months of the starting date of employment:

- ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector.

- ICC Soils Special Inspector.

- ICC Structural Masonry Special Inspector.

- ICC Commercial Building Inspector.

- ICC Spray-Applied Fire Resistance Special Inspector.

· Ability to obtain the ACI Grade 1 certification within 2 months of employment.

· Must be punctual, reliable, and dependable.

· Must be able to walk and stand continuously throughout the day.

· Must be able to lift, carry, push up to 40+ pounds on a regular basis.

· Valid Texas Driver’s License (extra compensation for CDL) and must continue to maintain a safe driving record to fulfill travel requirements of this position.

· Applicants must pass background investigation, drug screening and driving record.

· Ability to understand and communicate well verbal and written (English).

· Basic phone and computer skills: Microsoft Outlook and ADP.

· High school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of Construction Materials Testing experience preferred.
  • ACI Field Grade I, ACI Aggregates and ICC soils and concrete certification and Nuclear Density Gauge certification preferred.
  • TxDOT certification and experience – S102, 1B preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will report to the assigned Supervisor and CMT Manager.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday - Saturday, (variable time). Able to work some weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Travel

The position is based in our San Antonio, Texas office. Travel is required throughout Texas and its surrounding states.
