POSITION: Coastal Engineer/Modeler (Mid-level)

ROLE:
Experienced engineer/scientist that will serve as a key contributing member of the Coastal Engineering & Modeling Team with work focused on climate change planning, coastal flood risk assessment, wetland restoration, and shore protection projects. Will serve as lead engineer/modeler for technical analyses of coastal, oceanographic, and environmental processes, numerical modeling for project applications, and development of engineering design alternatives. Conduct project management and support other project managers through task management. Prepare reports for completed work and contribute to business development efforts. Shown ability to work independently, support project management, and provide technical leadership.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Coastal Engineer/Modeler will have the following duties and responsibilities:

• Assessment of coastal, oceanographic, and environmental processes
• Numerical model applications o Ocean-scale wave, circulation, and storm surge o Estuary & wetland hydrodynamics o Waves, sediment transport and shoreline/beach profile change o Contaminant transport and fate o Water quality
• Project/Task management for coastal projects
• Support field data collection and analyses
• Evaluation of shore protection structures, beach nourishment, habitat restoration and climate change adaptations
• Report writing
• Support proposal preparation, business development, and external marketing
• Work collaboratively with other teams & project partners to achieve project goals
• Assure proper archiving and documentation of program data
• Report status of projects to supervisor and complete project assignments within budget and schedule constraints

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: At project level including mentoring of junior level staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: From Team Leader

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:
Performance evaluation will be based on:

• Technical acumen and accuracy/quality of analysis and design work
• Efficiency in completion of tasks
• Quality of technical reports/proposals

QUALIFICATIONS:
3-8 years of related experience. Master’s degree in Ocean/Coastal Sciences/Engineering or closely related field is required. Demonstrated project work / capabilities in numerical modeling, data analysis with background in quantitative coastal processes is highly desirable. A high level of proficiency in computing, including numerical model source codes, HPC Linux environment, Python, Matlab, as well as business software including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Excellent English oral communication, technical writing, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are required, along with proof of eligibility for employment in the United States.
