DSHS Medical Coding Specialist

Eastern State Hospital (ESH) is seeking a Medical Coding Specialist to join the team in Medical Lake, WA. This is an opportunity to become a part of an inclusive and diverse team where all staff contribute to support the patients of ESH in their recovery, independence, and wellness.

In this role, you will become the subject matter expert for billing compliance at ESH. You will work with internal and external stakeholders in coding, audits, and providing education on acceptable coding practices.

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Assign and sequence codes according to official guidelines
  • Input diagnosis codes into computer systems
  • Assign coded to encounter forms used for reimbursement purposes
  • Perform monthly audits for billing compliance
  • Provide Physician education for coding and documentation

What we’re looking for:

  • Knowledge of:
    • anatomy
    • physiology
    • medical terminology and medical coding guidelines
    • regulations and medical practice specialty
  • Ability to:
    • abstract information required to support accurate medical diagnostic coding
    • work effectively with program staff, medical providers, and other affected parties
    • communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in written form

Who should apply?

  • Professionals with an associate’s degree and at least two years of experience in medical coding, medical billing, medical policymaking on fee schedule creations with an emphasis on diagnosis coding

And

  • Current certification as a Certified Professional Coder with the American Association of Professional Coders (or equivalent) or ability to obtain certification within two years of hire

Additional professionally related experience can be substituted year-for-year for the Associate’s degree
