Community Engagement Specialist - NPS ESP Program Job at Center for Workforce Inclusion
The Center for Workforce Inclusion is recruiting for a Community Engagement Specialist position within the Experience Service Program (ESP) that provides support to the United States Department of the Interior, National Capital Parks-East in Washington, DC.
Role and Responsibilities:
Responsible for developing and implementing community engagement strategies for the park working with the park, regional office and park partners.
- Serves as community engagement subject matter expert and collaborates with park and regional staff to develop and implement community engagement efforts across a diverse set of parks within various communities.
- Proactively develops communication strategies that address visitor and community concerns as well as environmental and management issues. Analyze stakeholder and public reaction to communication effort to determine effectiveness of communication strategies and adjust accordingly
- Participate in meetings and events with partners and the public
- As needed in support of duties, conducts general research using primary sources on a variety of park related themes related to history, archeology, cultural and natural resources management, and natural history in order inform community engagement efforts.
- Assist with creating content for park's websites, social media and other interactive, digital media.
- May perform other duties required to support the operation of the division
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Successful candidates must meet the age criteria of being 55 years of age or older and eligible to work in the United States; able to pass a Federal Background check; BA/BS in community development, community organizing, public administration or a related field; 5-10 years in related field; Knowledge and ability in communicating and implementing ideas that lead to cooperative plans with multiple and diverse organizations, groups, and individuals. Proven ability to work with wide range of people who often hold diverse and conflicting opinions, and ability to attain their engagement. Experience with the tools and techniques of civic engagement. Strong cultural competence and ability to address different values in park planning, use and programming. Experience developing strategies from a diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility perspective. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (including TEAMs, Forms, SharePoint). Office work and onsite visits to learn park resources, walking trails and other outdoor areas.
Hours & Compensation: Part-Time position working 24 hours per week @ $35 per hour; 6-12 month project.
