Position Overview:

The Community Impact (CI) Program Lead for Foundations will be responsible for the successful implementation of an evolving set of community interventions and related supports focused on establishing the foundations for ending homelessness in Built for Zero communities. Some of these ‘foundations' include developing shared aims across local systems, building commitment and alignment with key stakeholders and maintaining cross-sector governance structures and processes to guide the effort to reach those shared aims and ultimately, end homelessness. This position reports to the Community Impact Deputy Director for Programs and will supervise community-facing coaching staff to deliver this work.

Defining Success for this Position:

The Program Lead for Foundations will lead and support a small team of coaching staff in operationalizing community-facing interventions for Built for Zero communities in alignment with our strategic aims.

Success for this position will be defined in the following areas for this work:

  • Driving Operational Excellence:
    • Clear project scopes, milestones/success indicators and work plans that together reflect the current work of the team
    • Project timelines are on track
    • Measurable standards for excellence in the design and delivery of interventions are consistently being met
    • Implementation problems are quickly surfaced and effectively addressed
  • Delivering Interventions to Achieve Strategic Aims:
    • Interventions are aligned to strategic priorities and milestones
    • Supporting processes to continually design, deliver and iterate interventions in alignment with strategic priorities
    • Utilizing shared measurement frameworks that define success and enable feedback loops to understand progress and quickly identify implementation problems
    • Documented models and approaches for each intervention using a consistent and shared framework
  • Generating Learning and Supporting Iteration:
    • Translating ground-truth learning to inform strategy. Systematically elevating new insight to relevant leadership roles.
    • Learning is continuously captured from foundational work and shared across the Community Impact Portfolio and Built for Zero team as applicable
    • Continuous improvement of the design and delivery of interventions
    • Intervention delivery is nimble and can course correct mid-stream to enable desired outcomes
  • Supporting People and Team Culture:
    • Community Solutions' manager and HR guidelines, standards and protocols are fully implemented
    • Positive team member experience and retention
    • Team members are performing at a high-level and working within capacity
    • Proactively supporting a team culture that promotes excellence, collaboration built on trust and joy at work
  • Collaborating to Get Results:
    • Effectively working with the CI Deputy Director and Strategy Lead roles as well as Large-Scale Change team to align and iterate the design and delivery of foundational interventions in service of strategic aim priorities and milestones
    • Partnering with managers across CI and BFZ portfolios to build and manage cross-cutting project teams
    • Providing clear input and feedback as needed for other parts of the organization and Built for Zero

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential to success in managing a system of interventions and a thriving team to deliver this work is the following:

  • Designing and delivering a portfolio of projects aimed at building the foundational strength of communities to end homelessness.
  • Building a project team for each foundations intervention, with guidance from the Deputy Director for Programs, that includes appropriate cross-portfolio representation
  • Supporting project teams, working directly with Project Leads, to assure successful completion of the intervention
  • Supporting learning system and evaluation activities for each project
  • Partnering with the Deputy Director for Programs to design a system, with data analytics, for measuring the success of the Foundations interventions collectively
  • Tracking capacity of community coaches on Foundations projects and working with the Deputy Portfolio Lead for Programs to draw in capacity from the broader Programs team as needed

Professional Experience and Qualifications:

The Built for Zero team draws on a set of core competencies to support communities in their journey towards ending homelessness. These include facilitation for results, utilizing quality improvement methods, data analytics and human centered design. The Program Lead should have minimum baseline capabilities in each of these areas.

In addition, person in this role should have demonstrated the following:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Seven to ten years previous work experience in a relevant professional environment
  • Previous experience managing a team to outcomes, and in doing so finding joy and professional fulfillment
  • Experience designing and delivering a set of programs aimed at improving a system and/or solving a specific social problem
  • Previous experience effectively building and maintain a team culture in alignment with organizational values
  • Strong project management skills, as evidenced by leading projects to successful and measurable completion
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Extraordinary political and strategic relationship management skills
  • Comfort and facility using data for problem-solving and decision-making
  • Excellent and collaborative ability to manage without authority through soft power
  • Strong content knowledge of local Continuum of Care governance and programs for people experiencing homelessness preferred by not required
  • A belief that ending homelessness is possible with strong desire to support a measurable end to homelessness, across a system and community, to prove it possible and for scaling to other communities
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced, dynamic team environment and demonstrate a willingness to shift easily between various responsibilities with diverse stakeholders

Salary Range:

CS oers competitive salaries and benets packages for every position. The salary range for this position is $90,842-$118,095 and will be based upon experience. Note that our salary structure is transparent and ensures that salary advancement is attainable with increased tenure, performance, independence, responsibility, and embodiment of our organizational values.

Work Environment:

Although there is a physical Community Solutions office in New York City, this position provides the flexibility to work from a remote or home location. Although Community Solutions provides a generous home office allowance annually, the work environment does not provide the standard support available at an office. The opportunity to work from a local office may surface, if such an arrangement meets the needs of Community Solutions.

Travel Requirements:

Up to 5 days of travel may be required every two months to attend semi-annual team retreats, community visits, and other on-site training or convenings. Additional travel may be needed and will be negotiated with staff on an individual basis pending availability.
