Community Intervention Specialist – Housing Navigation

Job Summary: The Community Intervention Specialist (CIS) supports the Housing Services Division. This position serves as a contact for Housing Services’ homeless outreach team to assist with permanent supportive housing referrals, Milwaukee County Housing Authority Section 8 referrals, connecting with area landlords, working with Coordinated Entry staff and providing housing support services to consumers once housing is secured. In addition to providing full-time housing navigation services, this position will also work on benefit establishment and linkage to mental health/substance abuse treatment. The CIS is responsible for working with community members, partners, and stakeholders across Milwaukee County.

Job Duties:
- Develop and strengthen relationships with area landlords and stakeholders to find and obtain units for PSH programs, Milwaukee County Housing Section 8, and other scattered-site supportive housing programs.
- Housing navigation services: Collaborate with County Homeless Outreach staff, Impact 211, and case management organizations to ensure successful housing placements.
- Provide advocacy and mediation, serve as liaison with property managers. Assist with housing search and placement assistance. Leverage supportive services and needs for those experiencing homelessness and in need of housing, behavioral health services, etc. Support the connection of individuals with appropriate services in the community and through DHHS.
- Provide housing support services once placements are found and develop consistent rapport with consumers to support housing retention strategies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Current resident of the State of Wisconsin.
- Current Wisconsin Driver's License maintained throughout employment.
- Must possess High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least five (5) years of experience working with the homelessness population, supportive housing, and/or Human Services.
- At least Intermediate knowledge of all computer and software applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Must be able to travel extensively, up to 70% of work time, within the community.
