Purpose
The purpose of this classification, under general supervision, is responsible for the coordination and administration of all activities for the Fire Department Community Paramedicine Program. This position includes the treatment, counseling, coordinating, and the home visitation of clients of the program. The position also serves as the coordinator of the City"s Drug Abuse Response Team. The Community Paramedicine Officer reports directly to the Fire Chief or designee. Performs related work as required. Drug Screening
NOTE: This position requires a drug screen. If applicant did not receive drug screening upon initial hire with the City, applicant will be required to submit to drug screening prior to accepting this position. Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience - High school diploma or acceptable equivalency diploma. Must possess State of Florida Paramedic license or State of Florida Registered Nurse license, Health Care Provider level CPR Certification, American Heart Association ACLS certification, and valid State of Florida Driver"s License. Certifications and/or licenses must remain valid for period of employment in this classification..
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: At time of application, candidate must live within a one (1) hour response time of the City of Daytona Beach, comply with Fire Department Body Ornamentation policy, and be a non-user of tobacco or tobacco products. Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Establishes and coordinates the efforts of the Community Paramedicine Program.

Performs home visits of clients to include but not limited to: health assessment, home evaluation, education, documentation, and coordination of needed services.

Functions as a member of and coordinator for the Drug Abuse Response Team. This includes but is not limited to: home visits, coordination of services, documentation, and follow-up care.

Functional Reasoning: Requires ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert extremely heavy physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials in excess of 100 pounds.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds. The work performance of non-supervisory personnel of the City of Daytona Beach is routinely evaluated according to the performance criteria outlined herein:

Knowledge of Job: Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the City of Daytona Beach as such pertain to the performance of the essential duties of a Community Paramedicine Officer. Includes thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment and techniques used in performing essential functions. Has thorough knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. Has considerable knowledge of the organization of the department, and of related departments and agencies. Clearly understands the occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform the essential functions of the work. Has thorough knowledge of terminology and related professional languages used within the department as such pertain to work responsibilities. Knows how to maintain cooperative and effective relationships with intra- and interdepartmental personnel, as well as any external entities with which position interacts.

Quality of Work: Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility. Maintains high quality communication and interaction with internal and external entities with whom the position interacts.
