We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual to share in this experience by joining our team as a Classification & Compensation Trainee in the City's centralized Human Resource Department (SHR).

This training opportunity is anticipated to last between 3-6 months dependent upon individual progress. At the end of the training period, the intention is to reallocate this role to Compensation & Classification Consultant (Personnel Analyst classification).

Job Responsibilities
In this role, you would start by learning the fundamentals of City of Seattle Compensation & Classification, including:

  • Learning the role, value and impacts of Job Classification work in the organization
  • Reviewing and using a Position Description Questionnaire to determine job classification
  • Learning critical City guidelines, policies, and ordinances
  • Engaging with team members, department members, and citywide partners to solve problems

From this foundation, you would continue to build the skills you need to become a Compensation & Classification Consultant by:

  • Shadowing Compensation & Classification Consultants, Senior Consultants, and Supervisor
  • Gathering pertinent information
  • Evaluating documents
  • Applying rules and guidelines
  • Analyzing situations
  • Writing focused reports and recommendations

Once you successfully complete the training program, the goal is to advance you from Trainee to Compensation & Classification Consultant. In this role, you will be responsible for the full scope of classification and compensation needs for assigned city departments.

Top Three (3) Priorities for this work are:

1. Classification reviews for assigned departments
2. Ongoing consultation and training regarding position management and position reviews
3. Leading specialized projects of moderate scope and participation in process improvement efforts

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this job, you will need:

A combination of training and HR experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the job
OR
A Bachelor's degree in Human Resource management, business or public administration, social sciences, or a related field
OR
2 years of relevant HR experience.

Additional Information

This full-time, Civil Service position is classified as a Personnel Analyst Trainee. This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Employees will be expected to be in-office twice a week. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and their supervisor.

First-round interviews for this position are planned for the week of January 30th and second round interviews the week of February 6th.

Contributions and earnings are tax deferred. New City employees contribute 7% of their salary and the City pays 14.42% of the employee’s salary toward retirement. Employees are 100% vested in their contributions and earnings and become vested (eligible for a monthly benefit at retirement age) at 5 years of service.
