Become a Construction Electrician Apprentice in our Substation, Construction & Maintenance (SC&M) Division within Southern California Edison's Transmission and Distribution division and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll be responsible for constructing and remodeling substation facilities, as well as installing high voltage electrical substation apparatus and connecting electrical equipment. This is a three-year apprenticeship and candidates will be required to remain in the program for all three years.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!
- Under the direction of the Supervisor, Foreman, Journeyman, or other qualified person; construct substation structures and install high voltage electrical substation apparatus
- Operate heavy trucks, high lifts, forklifts, and tractors.
- Assembles prefabricated steel.
- Cuts, threads, and bends pipe and conduit.
- Pulls control, power, and wiring into conduit.
- Rig, install, and terminate high voltage conductor.
- Perform wiring of substation equipment.
- Unloads heavy electrical equipment such as transformers, regulators, and circuit breakers
- Maintains a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
- Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
The essentials
- One or more years of experience working inside an Electric Utility Substation perimeter fence.
- Ability to obtain Class A motor vehicle operator’s license within 6 months of appointment.
The preferred
- One or more years of experience inspecting or troubleshooting electrical wiring and/or components or formal Electrical Training Certification or Diploma through an Electrical Apprenticeship, Trade School, University, Community College or equivalent.
- Knowledge of Principles of Electricity and characteristics of Electrical AC and DC circuits; including basic ohms law and basic mechanical principals.
- One or more years of experience working with construction tools.
- Ability to learn tools, materials, and methods employed in overhead and underground construction and maintenance.
- Experience solving mathematical problems involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Progressively learn the electrical and mechanical theory necessary for advancement to Journeyman Construction Electrician.
- Ability to work safely around energized equipment.
- Experience performing strenuous manual labor.

- Position may require more than 50% travel, reporting to job sites throughout the SCE service territory.

NERC/CIP
- This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
