Controller Job at ABC STORES
The Controller is responsible for the reporting, accounting and property management functions of MNS, Ltd., ABC Stores – Guam, Inc. and ABC Stores – Saipan, Inc. Responsible for implementation and maintenance of an effective system of internal control to safeguard company assets. Responsible for timely reporting of financial position and results of operations. Responsible for providing financial analyses of the Company’s position, new and renewing leases, and any other financial opportunities/projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the general oversight of the Finance Department consisting of Accounting, Sales Audit, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Property Management and Compliance and Contracts.
- Directly supervises the Assistant Controller, Property Manager and Compliance and Contracts Analyst. Indirectly supervises approximately 40 staff.
- Ensures timely financial reporting including P&L Statements, Operating Statement, Balance Sheet, Income Statement and other operating reports.
- Oversees the annual State and Federal tax returns for all entities and the quarterly shareholder distribution.
- Evaluates, improves and documents the department’s control systems, processes, policies and procedures.
- Provides financial analysis and forecasts for monitoring and evaluating company performance, store operations, new leases, construction expenditures and investment opportunities.
- Participates in lease negotiations with landlords, tenants and property managers.
- Works with investment consultant in managing the Company’s investment performance.
- Supports and interacts with all levels of the company to accomplish company objectives.
- Works closely with store and department managers regarding financial information and the implementation of new procedures and policies related to new initiatives.
- Attends the Profit Sharing Plan Committee meetings to oversee the Company’s Profit Sharing Plan.
- Prepares financial reports to the Board of Directors.
- Reviews semi-annual performance evaluations and recommends merit increases for managers and staff.
- Manages relationships with banks, investment managers, insurance carriers, profit sharing advisors, attorneys and auditors.
- Effectively recruits, develops and monitors staff, providing counsel and training as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
- B.A. degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA required.
- Fifteen years accounting and management experience.
