This is a highly cross-functional role, you will be required to be highly analytical and very effective communicator. Our ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading an accounting team, thriving in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and successfully dealing with change. You should be a self-starter with a strong work ethic, highly team-oriented, inquisitive, enjoy problem solving and focused on driving towards results.
What we are looking for:
- 15 years of experience in financial accounting, including an active CPA license
- At least 5 years of experience at a public accounting firm; "Big 4" firm preferred
- Must have experience preparing a company for IPO and/or taking a company public
- Prior accounting experience with SaaS and freemium / self-service business preferred
- Deep technical accounting knowledge
- Positions of increasing responsibility and scope, preferably in the fast-paced software and technology industry with exposure to broad accounting and functional responsibilities
- Strong understanding of ERP solutions and financial systems
- Prior experience leading and building an accounting team for a global company
- NetSuite and Stripe experience strongly preferred
- Clear and confident communicator, both written and verbal
- Team focused approach to multicultural and remote work environment
- Detail-oriented and hands-on
What you will do as part of the team
- The role is responsible for overseeing the following 5 areas across the Accounting team:
1. Financial Leadership:
- Further build out a small, but growing, and strong in-house Accounting function. Recruit, manage, and oversee all accounting functions and related operations
- Oversee and lead initiatives and projects across the organization to include ERP, controls, processes & procedures
- Develop and present executive level presentations with clear and concise recommendations
- Develop strong peer and stakeholder relationships and maintain effective communication
2. Financial Controls and Accounting Operations
- Regularly prepare and examine financial statements and ensure they are accurate, free of errors, and in compliance with GAAP, including 606, as well as applicable laws and regulations. Implement new accounting standards (i.e. lease accounting)
- Plan, design, and execute complex projects, while collaborating effectively with other cross-functional teams globally
- Partner with process owners and other key stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and document process improvement opportunities that increase productivity
- Document current and future state processes and requirements; lead the evolution to future state
- Implement standard controls, policies and procedures (across AR, AP, company spend, signing authority, closing the books, etc.)
- Oversee the monthly and annual financial close process to drive close timeline down. Ensure regular accounting activities are smooth across and running efficiently across GL, AR, AP, FA, & Payroll
- Lead the setup of international subsidiaries from both an accounting and tax optimized standpoint. Ensure consolidated books can be closed accurately and timely, and international payroll runs smoothly
- Develop and prepare best-in-class monthly financial reports and provide status updates on the financial condition of the company
- Partner with HR to oversee implementation of ADP
- Ensure information systems and solutions are appropriate for the volume and complexity of transactions as well as for analyzing and reporting financial data, including data analytics and data visualization
3. Audit
- Put in place necessary controls and procedures in preparation for a first-year audit; ensure successful first year audit with Big 4 firm
- Lead interaction and support all Audit and Tax related engagements.
- Manage the external auditor relationship, including the annual audit and quarterly reviews
4. Treasury, Tax, Insurance & Risk Management, and Equity
- Oversee / lead the following areas and deliverables:
- Manage daily, weekly and monthly cash needs and ensure compliance with investment policy. Prepare cash flow statements
- Accountable for all working capital metrics & working cross-functionally to influence results
- Ensure compliance with sales tax requirements
- Work with broker to oversee insurance remains up-to-date and right sized for our business
- Maintain and work with cap table administrator to ensure cap table is up to date and accurate
- Work with CFO and counsel to ensure equity grants are in compliance for each country. Oversee local country reporting and compliance on those grants
5. Reporting & Governance
- Provide actuals reporting to investors at the end of each month and quarter
- Review all potential sales and vendor contracts prior to execution for verification and sign-off on financial provisions and payment terms
About You
- Effective project management skills with history of successfully managing and leading an accounting team
- Very strong communication/ presentation skills with experience creating and delivering effective presentations to senior management
- Ability to drive change successfully and get buy-in across senior leadership and other key stakeholders. Ability to partner across the organization, provide thoughtful recommendations and develop action plans for implementation
- Comfortable with a fast-paced, demanding environment. Must be able to manage juggle several urgent demands at any given point, while adapting to changing priorities, and while also actively managing and leading the Accounting team
- Last, but certainly not least, you need to be ready to roll-up your sleeves and do whatever needs to be done, because, despite our early successes, this is still a start-up.
