Education/Experience
  • High school or equivalent preferred.
  • A minimum of 6 months as a cook with dietary experience in a health care setting or full line cafeteria or any combination which provides required skills.

Essential Job Functions
  • Review menus prior to preparation of food.
  • Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus.
  • Prepare and serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance.
  • Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures.
  • Prepare food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus.
  • Prepare food in accordance with standardized recipes and special diet orders.
  • Prepare and serve bedtime snacks as requested.
  • Use proper technique to taste prepared food to ensure quality taste and prior to service and take corrective
action if needed.
  • Maintain proper temperature of food during preparation and service.
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor and/or maintenance.
  • Label, date and store food properly according to established policies.
  • Record food temperature prior to meal service and take correction action if needed.
  • Assist in establishing food service production line, etc., to assure that meals are prepared and served on
time.
  • Process diet changes and new diets as received.
  • Assist in inventory and storage of food, supplies, etc. Notify supervisor if supplies are inadequate.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by supervisor, to include any special projects.
  • Maintain punctual and regular attendance on the job site.
  • Ability to handle reasonably necessary stress.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with staff, resident/patients, and visitors.
  • Remain alert and awake on the job.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that department is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Ensure that kitchen cleaning schedules are followed.
  • Participate in staff development programs and staff meetings.
  • Carry out assignments in a prompt and efficient manner.
  • Report immediately any work-related injury, occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials,
and hazardous chemical to the supervisor.
  • Follow established infection control procedures when performing duties.
  • Report immediately all grievances and complaints, all allegations of resident/patient abuse, neglect and/or
misappropriation of resident/patient property, all incidents/accidents, no matter how minor, all
unsafe/hazardous conditions or defective equipment, either by resident/patients or family to supervisor.
  • Notify supervisor of equipment and supply needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident/patient and company information.
  • Treat all resident/patients fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  • Comply with policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to work assignments.
  • Adhere to dress code.
Specific Requirements
  • Must be able to read and write the English language.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must possess the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Must possess flexibility.
  • Must demonstrate sensitivity to the special needs of resident/patients.

Working Conditions
  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Subject to being involved with resident/patients, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Subject to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Subject to call-back during emergency conditions.
  • Subject to hostile and emotionally upset resident/patients, family members, personnel, and visitors.
  • Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
  • Subject to handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  • Subject to working around resident/patients’ pets (animals).

Physical Requirements for Essential Job Functions
  • Must be able to move about consistently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to reach, bend, and/or stoop intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to walk/stand 75% of the day.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry up to 50 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and assistance.
  • Must be able to push, pull, or move a minimum of 100 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and assistance.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
