Coordinator/Instructor - Medical Lab Tech Job at Coastal Alabama Community College
The Medical Lab Technician/Technology Coordinator/Instructor is responsible for the maintenance of clinical agreements, lab, and clinical schedules, as well as classroom and laboratory instruction in medical laboratory technology. This position includes instruction, academic advising, serving on various committees, and participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities, and organizations. The Coordinator/Instructor is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Coastal Alabama Community College campus as assigned. The Coordinator/Instructor is responsible for working closely with the Program Director in the development and allocation of division budgets and funds.

Requests and maintains clinical sites each semester to ensure students are able to develop cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills in the provision of medical lab technician/technology.- Assures clinical learning experiences provide for learning in all areas of medical lab technician/technology.
- Arranges student orientation to each clinical affiliate at the beginning and/or end of each semester as necessary.
- Collects and provides mandated student information for all clinical affiliates at the beginning and/or end of each semester.
- Updates clinical affiliation agreements as necessary to maintain currency.
- Assists with the development of curriculum, plans, and organizes program courses in coordination with the Program Director. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; Ensuring that assigned classes are held as scheduled; Planning each unit or lesson, both as to content and method, to make each class minute meaningful; Organizing each course taught into an effective instrument of learning; Studying and utilizing the characteristics of the students in each class in order to facilitate the best teaching and learning situations; and Maximizing the learning opportunities for each student.
- Effectively teaches lecture, lab, and/or clinical courses as needed in the day, evening, or on weekends on any Coastal Alabama Community College campus or work site.
- Assists in implementing College policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with College philosophy and procedures including, but not limited to; Conducting instructor/course evaluations and completing other College evaluations in accordance with College policy; Posting and maintaining office hours for student consultations; Filing appropriate course syllabi and course outlines with the Program Director for each course taught; Submitting all required reports, keeping accurate class rolls, and submitting attendance verification as required to the appropriate administrative personnel; and Holding the final exam at the designated time scheduled.
- Keeps students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers, projects, skill assessments, and other work.
- Recommends textbooks and other instructional materials including classroom and laboratory equipment including, but not limited to; participating in the development of the College’s library collection by selecting, evaluating, and vetting library resources in the medical assisting discipline.
- Works closely with the Program Director on the development of annual Division budgets for approval by the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health.
- Serves as an academic advisor to assigned students.
- Refers students to counselors (including Student Support Services) on all students who need counseling.
- Assists with College registrations and recruitment and retention of students.
- Assists the Program Director with obtaining and maintaining program accreditation, accreditation reports, self-studies, and site-visits.
- Maintains acceptable certification pass rates of graduates.
- Remains active at a high level of expertise in the subjects taught and stimulating enthusiasm for those subjects by keeping informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction via professional development activities. Strives for the qualities delineated in the criteria for faculty evaluation used by the College. Makes suggestions to the Director of Nursing and Allied Health, and the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health concerning the improvement of the curriculum in keeping with the objectives of the College.
- Attends all faculty meetings, College assemblies, professional development, orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Dean of Nursing and Allied Health, or Director of Nursing and Allied Health. Remains actively involved in the co-curricular activities of the College.

- Bachelor’s degree in related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- ASCP-BOC or ASCP-BOC Generalist Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.
- One year experience in medical laboratory science education.
- Documented education in instructional methodology or educational theory and techniques as demonstrated by completed workshops, in-service sessions, seminars, or college courses.
- Documented ability and understanding of the effectiveness and advantages of using technology as a teaching tool in the classroom including teaching internet-based courses.
- Evidence of excellent clinical skills and experience providing clinical supervision of students.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching in a college setting.- Experience in a variety of teaching and evaluation methods and delivery mediums including multimedia presentation of classroom lectures and laboratory activities.
- An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.
- Commitment to all students and faculty including those of diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
- An understanding of the broad range of students' abilities in an open admissions college and the ability to communicate to the community college student population.
