South Dakota State University’s (SDSU) Office of International Affairs (OIA) is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic leader to serve as the Coordinator of English Language Support. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefit-eligible position.
OIA is a comprehensive home for international student and scholar services, international undergraduate admission, study abroad planning and community connections programs. All services and activities are intended to help enrich the experience of international students here at SDSU and to expand global engagement for all students, faculty, and staff. OIA staff provides guidance and administrative support to over 800 students from over 80 different countries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
This position will support the Assistant Vice President of International Affairs in various aspects of planning for and supervision of an SDSU pathway program for non-native speakers of English. The position will also collaborate with student support offices on campus to create a culture of English language support on campus, promoting the increase in retention of undergraduate and graduate international students at the university.

MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Masters in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field completed by start date;
  • Minimum of three years of experience in teaching of academic English to non-native English speakers;
  • Professional knowledge of approaches and methodologies in the teaching of academic English to non-native populations, including assessment techniques, test/measurement principles, pathway programming, online delivery of academic English instruction, and/or instructional material design and development;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Comfortable and enthusiastic in a wide range of cultural groups and cross-cultural relationships;
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English to non-native speakers; and
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Experience living abroad and/or proficiency in at least one language other than English;
  • Goal-oriented leader with ability to initiate action plans; and
  • Experience with online course delivery formats.
