Summary:
The principle function of this position is to provide timely, fair, efficient, and cost‐effective disposition of all matters properly presented to the Court and coordinate the jury needs for the Kalamazoo County Courts (Circuit, District, and Probate).
Responsibilities:
- Review, analyze and assess for proper filing of all juror questionnaires and legal pleadings that will serve as the court record, as well as update the court record regarding the judicial action of all court events in criminal, civil, appeal, and personal protection order cases
- Research, analyze and respond to all inquiries from the public, clients, and jurors made in person, by telephone, e‐mail, or in writing regarding the court records, processes, and jury procedures.
- Review, analyze and certify court documents for accuracy and then release the certified documents to appropriate parties and agencies.
- Receive, process, and receipt all filing fees, Court-ordered payments, restitution, and bonds following applicable laws and auditing requirements
- Process payrolls for all jurors and disburse appropriate fees to all witnesses subpoenaed to the Court.
- Direct the appointment of appellate attorneys for indigent clients, make arrangements for interpreters, and any other due process requirements.
- Provide jury services to all County courts regarding all aspects of juror requirements by coordinating and managing the summoning, qualification and selection, and enforcement processes, including forecasting the number of jurors required for daily, monthly, and yearly trial operations.
- Compile, analyze, monitor, and submit reports to law enforcement agencies and the Supreme Court in compliance with case management standards and compiling and submitting juror yield and the jury reimbursement cost report to SCAO.
- Monitor the processing of criminal, civil, PPO, and domestic appeals to the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court and monitor and process all appeals to the Circuit Court from the lower courts and/or administrative agencies.
- Review, analyze, and submit disposition abstracts to the Michigan Department of State and coordinate juror pool data lists between the Michigan Department of State and the Court's jury system vendor.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree; two years court or related field experience; or comparable combination of education or experience.
Experience: Familiarity with Michigan Court Rules and basic knowledge of Microsoft package with the propensity to learn new computer applications and systems quickly. Must possess the ability to handle multiple priorities and continuous interruptions; work independently and as a team member; produce high volume work product; maintain composure in confrontational situations; excellent organizational/prioritization skills; excellent communication skills; be able to maintain confidentiality and able to be sworn as a Deputy County Clerk.
