Crisis Clinic's Youth and Outreach Program Assistant Job at Washington Service Corps

Washington Service Corps Olympia, WA 98506

Apply here: https://my.americorps.gov/mp/listing/viewListing.do?id=114558

Our Mission: We provide compassionate support and resources to empower those in crisis every hour of every day. We do this by strengthening individual resilience through crisis intervention, resources, and referrals, raising awareness of and expanding access to community services, showing respect, empathy and compassion to all, and finally, training our community to prevent suicide among seniors, adults and youth. Our ideal member would be comfortable providing Suicide Awareness presentations at local schools and organizations as requested, participating in outreach/tabling events within the community outside of our current capabilities, distributing pamphlets and flyers to schools and the community, participating in Crisis Clinic training and presentations, assisting the Volunteer Coordinator in prep prior to training events, and working closely with staff to ensure phone room coverage, and provide shift coverage as needed.

The Crisis Clinic provides the only service of its kind for Thurston and Mason counties. The CCTMC is the only anonymous crisis line in Washington State. The service includes active listening, emotional support, empowered problem-solving, as well as resources and referrals. The phone lines are operational 24/7 365. The Crisis Clinic is also a back-up line for Olympia Health and Recovery Services' Designated Crisis Responders, as well as a back-up plan offered by local mental health providers to their clients outside of office hours. In 2021, The Crisis Clinic received 13,000 phone calls, roughly 24% of which were for resources and referrals. 68% were mental health related. The year before, there were 45,979 deaths by suicide in the United States in 2020. 1,212 of those were in Washington State. Our callers don't tend to skew towards one demographic or another as our services are broad, but they do trend towards impoverished communities. In addition to running a 24/7 crisis hotline, The Crisis Clinic currently provides Suicide Awareness Presentations to the community, mainly to grades 5-12. In 2021, The Clinic presented over 45 times, and reached 848 attendees. We would like to expand on those numbers and reach more community members, and we need your help.
