Job Description: The National Asian Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA) is seeking candidates 55 years of age and older for the position of Chemical Curator with the U.S. EPA Senior Environmental Employment Program (SEE). This position is located in RTP, NC, at the U.S. EPA facility. Applicants must have reliable transportation to facilities.
General Summary: EPA’s Center for Computational Toxicology & Exposure (CCTE) is looking for a full-time person (30-40 hrs/wk) to assist with chemical curation tasks supporting the delivery of a rigorous cheminformatics infrastructure and public-facing chemical dashboard (https://comptox.epa.gov/dashboard) to support CCTE and EPA-wide research programs. Applicant will serve as chemical curator for the DSSTox Database Project (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2468111319300234) and will have responsibilities for tasks such as data quality review, entry of chemical structures and associated identifiers and adding relevant descriptive information for hundreds to thousands of high priority chemicals associated with EPA’s computational toxicology research programs.
Qualifications: MUST BE: a minimum of 55 years of age (in accordance with Public Law 98-313 and the Older American Workers Act), a US citizen, and be eligible to work in the US.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Applying chemistry skills to the role of chemical curation in supporting CCTE research programs and EPA-wide priorities
- Using in-house curation tools and databases to review and enter accurate representations of chemical structures, including with stereochemistry
- Using commercial and publicly available software, and Internet resources (e.g. supplier websites, ChemSpider, PubChem, etc.) to support curation efforts
Skills: Fluency with basic computer applications including MS word, MS Excel, and Internet browsers, along with experience using chemical drawing applications and Internet chemical resources. Preference will be given to candidates with a BA or MS degree in chemistry or a related scientific discipline requiring chemistry coursework, and who have utilized and worked with chemical databases in past employment. Knowledge of analytical chemistry data, specifically mass spectrometry data, would be of great benefit.
