The City of Lafayette is accepting applications for a Seasonal Data Entry Specialist in the Public Works Department.
The Public Works Department is in the process of implementing multiple software upgrades and is looking for a motivated candidate to transfer historical data and records into the new software. This will include transfer of both digital and paper data.
The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
- Appear for scheduled work with regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
- Establish and maintain cooperative, effective and productive working relationships using tact, patience and courtesy.
- Basic Computer skills; including internet usage and data entry.
- General computation skills including the use of a calculator.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Learn, interpret, and implement procedural and technical instructions.
- Communicate with staff effectively; both orally and written.
- Safely operate a motor vehicle and other equipment if on a driving assignment.
- Perform the assigned duties and essential functions of the position.
Knowledge - Correct English, grammar, punctuation; basic office/filing methods, procedures and practices; basic math and writing; operating details of assigned area; computers and relative software.
Skills - Read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; enter data at a speed sufficient to accurately complete a reasonable workload in a timely manner; operate a computer for word processing, data entry, data retrieval and other uses.
Abilities: - To perform a variety of clerical work requiring some exercise of independent judgment; perform routine and non-routine clerical duties as required by the position assignment; operate standard office machines; prepare and maintain records and reports; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; strong attention to detail and organization of tasks. Familiarity with office procedures.
Training - High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience - General clerical experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
Applicants must meet the driving requirements of this position and submit a copy of current driving record (from state of residency) to review for eligibility to drive for the City of Lafayette prior to employment.

- Requires clear speaking and hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately both in person and on the telephone.
- This position will require you to reach, handle/grasp documents or materials while sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time, walking short distances, vision sufficient to read source materials or computer screen and perform repetitive motions for computer or hand tool use.
