What You’ll Do:

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) is seeking multiple experienced data entry professionals to work in our Bureau of Vital Statistics fulfillment area assisting with processing certificate orders. Applicants must have six months of experience in use of data entry equipment and formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, reading and writing.

Position Report-In Location: 4200 Surface Rd., Columbus, OH 43228 (parking available onsite)

Primary Job Duties:

  • Performs routine data entry tasks for the initial registration of vital events (i.e., births, deaths, fetal deaths, or abortions)
  • Data enters any key field (e.g., local health department certificate number, registration date, and certifier’s date) that is blank and verifies other data elements are complete and correct using scanned image or paper document for confirmation
  • Accepts documents for filing when all data has been confirmed as being correctly keyed.
  • Clarifies any discrepancies with record information with appropriate program personnel or immediate supervisor.
  • Corrects, and/or returns for correction, incorrect or incomplete data
  • Operates data entry or data verification equipment to check for accuracy and sufficiency of data and makes corrections or adjustments as needed
  • Cooperate with other data entry operators to identify and establish new records

Additional Duties:

  • Performs clerical tasks related to data processing (e.g., proofreads, codes data, sorts, files, maintains entry logs)
  • Generates query letters and attaches medical supplement documentation, scans &/or photocopies death certificated and/or certificate attachments
  • Reviews faxes to ensure documentation is in accordance with Ohio Probate Courts, Ohio
    Clerk of Courts, and the ORC prior to data entry (e.g., surrogacy agreements, divorce decrees,
    death without a funeral home documentation & home birth documentation).
  • Performs clerical tasks related to data processing (e.g., maintains record request information
    prior to and after processing; counts, sorts and distributes incoming documents for retention in
    unit or distribution to other units).

This is a temporary special project position that is unclassified position per ORC 124.11(A)(29).

Qualifications


Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary; AND 6 mos trg. or 6 mos. exp. in use of data entry equipment;

4 mos. exp. as Data Entry Operator 1, 12331;
-Or
Equivalent Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.


Knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication & division; office practices & procedures*. Skill in operation of data entry equipment; operation of peripheral machines (e.g., scanner, printer); data verification equipment*. Ability to proofread material, recognize errors & make corrections; read, copy & record figures; check pairs of items that are similar or dissimilar; proofread material, move limbs, fingers easily to perform manual functions repeatedly.
