Job Title: Registered Dental Assistant

Department: Community Health Center Dental Office

Status: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Compensation: Commensurate with work experience and education

Center for Pan Asian Community Services Inc. (CPACS) is a private non-for-profit organization established in 1980 and located in Atlanta, Georgia. CPACS has been providing social and community services to low income and under-served individuals, primarily, from immigrant and refugee communities. Our service offerings have grown, over the years, from mere translation service to wide range of services provided under refugee, youth, senior, transportation, legal, advocacy programs and more. CPACS’ charitable clinic COSMO, operational since 1990, has been awarded the Health Center Program (H80) grant in late 2013. In addition to family practice, COSMO Health Center, since has expanded to include pediatric, dental, behavioral health, OB/GYN and family planning.

Position Summary:

The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) performs duties such as:

· Preparing dental patients for treatment.

· Assisting the dentist in performing their treatment to the patient in restorative dentistry or oral surgery.

· Preparing materials and equipment for treatment and having them ready for the dentist’s use

· Taking X-Rays and assist the dentist in laboratory work.

· May perform other related work including but not limited to making appointment, answering telephone calls, ordering supplies, and dental billing.

Job Duties:

· Greets patients in the waiting area and escorts patients to the operatory,

· Assist the dentist in the administration of treatment at the chair side as required or directed by the dentist.

· Promotes an atmosphere supportive of good dental and general health by demonstrating good oral hygiene, questioning patients to ascertain home care status, and instructing patients in techniques of flossing and brushing in accordance with protocol.

· Maintain a sterile and neat working environment according to current infection control procedures.

· Reviews the health history, makes chart entries under the direction of the dentist and assure completion of forms and signatures.

· Assumes responsibilities associated with any expanded duties that may be delegated by the dentist.

· Familiarizes the patient with the aspects of their dental visit and provides support and compassion to patient when needed.

· Stocks operatory and maintains clinical supply inventory.

· Reviews daily schedule to set up appropriate trays and instruments.

· Assists front office procedures if time allows or need is determined by Dental Director

· Supervises preventive maintenance of dental equipment.

· Serves as supply liaison and communicate with finance department and vendors to ensure prompt receipt of all orders.

· May perform the following procedures:

o Obtain endodontic cultures.

o Dry canals previously opened by the supervising dentist, with absorbent points.

o Test pulp vitality.

o Place bases and liners on sound dentin.

o Remove excess cement from supragingival surfaces of teeth with hand instrument or floss.

o Size stainless steel crowns, temporary crowns, and bands.

o Temporary cementation and removal of temporary crowns and removal of orthodontic bands.

o Placement of orthodontic separators.

o Placement and ligation of arch wires.

o Placement of post-extraction and periodontal dressings.

o Take bite registration for diagnostic models for case study only.

o Coronal polishing.

· Has ability to relate to public regardless of ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic status.

Qualifications:

· High School Diploma (GED).

· Technical and troubleshooting.

· Knowledge of dental instruments.

· Prior experience administering dental X-Rays.

· Ability to complete forms in an orderly and accurate fashion.

· Able to use sound judgment.
