Dental Prevention Program Assistant

Siskiyou Community Health Center is seeking a full-time Dental Prevention Program Assistant for our dental clinic Outreach and Dental Prevention programs. This position assists the Dental Prevention Program Hygienist with education and preventive dental treatment for children and/or adults throughout Josephine County at various locations during the school year. In the summer this position will provide dental assisting services at the Grants Pass dental clinic.

Required qualifications for this position include:

· High school diploma or GED from an accredited body is required

· Completion of a Dental Assistant training program or a minimum of two years experience as a Dental Assistant in a dental office or clinic is preferred

· Current CPR and First Aid Certification is required

· Proof of current unrestricted Oregon Driver’s License, comprehensive automobile insurance, and a safe driving record is required

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Assists program hygienist with preventative dental services at various outreach locations.

· Plans and maintains Dental Prevention calendar of events and documents.

· Assists program hygienist with compliance and reporting documentation to the Oregon Health Authority.

· Facilitates the completion of required documentation, utilizing Microsoft word/excel as needed for two school districts.

· Assists program hygienist with contacting local school districts, school staff, and community partners.

· Knows and follows all clinical protocols, including infection control, charting and other paperwork.

· Demonstrates interest and initiative towards safety issues to ensure patient, personal, and staff safety.

· Assists dental practitioners with dental examinations and operative procedures as requested.

· Prepares a patient for dental treatment by instructing them of the process and setting up products needed for the procedure.

· Provides patient with health and dental education materials as directed by dental practitioners.

The Ideal Candidate has:

· Attention to detail and preplanning

· Experience using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets

· Passion for community oral health and prevention

· Strong communication skills

· Willingness to learn and perform basic dental assistant duties as directed by the dental practitioner

· Joy working with children, primarily in the K – 3rd grade age range

Working Conditions:

This position works in a busy environment with frequent interruptions, multiple demands, and people interactions. Some travel is required. Occasional after-hours or Saturday work.
