Department Support Asst Job at Edward-Elmhurst Health
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provides front desk coverage which includes answering and directing incoming calls, greeting patients and family members and collecting and distributing department mail, ordering supplies and generating reports/lists, etc. Processing patient charges by totaling fees, applying insurance coverage, calculating adjustments, and receiving and recording payments in computer system.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions, as defined by the ADA, except those that begin with the word "May.")
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. This includes knowledge of the physical and psychological needs of patients served and the ability to respond appropriately to those needs.
- Receives, screens and directs telephone calls or records messages. Responds to general inquiries concerning department activities in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Greets patients and family and provides assistance as needed.
- Prepares patient charts, new admission and discharge documentation and schedules follow-up appointments to specialty care clinics.
- Establishes and maintains department record keeping and filing systems including records related to department personnel, payroll, attendance, phone and staff lists, and purchase orders.
- Performs related general duties such as monitoring and ordering supplies, submitting work orders, collating and assembling documents, accepting and delivering interdepartmental correspondence, etc.
- Reviews and edits employee biweekly timekeeping entries.
- Takes and transcribes monthly department minutes.
- Maintains cleanliness and tidiness of the kitchen area that includes the refrigerators, microwaves, cabinets and drawers.
- Picks up and delivers equipment for sterile processing.
- Creates and maintains employee desk files for the leader.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Required Education, Skills and/or Experience:
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications and other department related systems
- Highest level of customer service skills
- Ability to maintain composure under stress
- Preferred Education, Skills and/or Experience:
- Medical terminology
- Previous EPIC experience
- A minimum of one year of previous hospital experience
Location: Edward-Elmhurst Health · CARD RAB
Schedule: Part time, Days/Evenings, M-F 8-4:30
