Summit Design and Engineering is seeking a qualified individual to assist in hydrologic analysis and hydraulic design. The position will work within our Water Resources group within our Civil Engineering Design Department in our Raleigh office. Projects will primarily involve hydrologic and hydraulic engineering for roadway/highway, municipal street, and pedestrian (greenways, multi-use trails) projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with hydrologic analysis and hydraulic design.
  • Perform design calculations and organize technical reports.
  • Prepare construction drawings.
  • Work on multiple project tasks prioritizing responsibilities.
  • Actively assist in design Quality Control.
  • Participate in pre-construction field work.
  • Interface with clients as required including periodically updating project status.

Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • EI Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software and design principles.
  • Proficiency in Microstation, Open Roads Designer, Civil3D or other CAD software.
  • Strong engineering analysis skills and judgment, proactive attitude, and excellent communication (written and verbal).
  • Knowledge of basic hydraulic design requirements and principles.
  • Ability to have effective, constructive, and cooperative working relationships with Summit employees, clients, and reviewers.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • 1 - 3 years of progressive hydrologic analysis and hydraulic design experience.
  • Experience in drainage and erosion control design.
  • Knowledge of and experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling with step backwater programs (HEC-RAS).
  • DOT (any state) design experience.
