We are pleased to announce this wonderful new opportunity to apply for our Dietitian 1, Part Time position, Here at the historic Spokane Veterans Home, located in Spokane, Washington!

Please Note: Expected hours will be 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

  • This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to honorably discharged veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.

As our Dietitian 1, you will perform professional level nutritional assessments, education and medical nutritional therapy and/or directs others in professional administrative dietetic services in an institutional setting. The scope of impact and responsibilities, and how the position supports/contributes to the agency mission reflects on the ability to recommend, prescribe and formulate a comprehensive resident nutritional care plan to meet the resident's individual needs. This is done by ensuring each resident has proper nutritional requirements for therapeutic and regular diet programs. Quality of life, healing wounds of war and trust are important components in the dietitian’s role in daily plans of care. Menu planning and extensions are a major part of a team oriented nutritional program. Resident nutritional assessment and education also contributes to the quality of life.

Duties

Some of what you will be doing:


  • Serve as expert resource for guidance and problem solving for nutritional issues.
  • Chart updates and meet therapeutic guidelines for DSHS & VA surveys, and monitor diet orders.
  • Recommending/prescribing and formulating comprehensive resident nutritional care plans to meet the resident's individual needs using medical, nutritional, and laboratory data to make a determination.
  • Address food and drug interactions for indicated medications.
  • Communicates with nursing staff, multi-disciplinary team members and food service personnel to obtain information.
  • Document in a timely manner according to policy and regulatory requirements with progress notes on resident's response to interventions, and Interprets diet prescriptions.
  • Maintains nutritional histories for all residents and Prepares reports.
  • May attend care conferences.
  • Serve as resource for guidance and problem solving for nutritional issues.
  • Assess resident weights to prevent unintentional weight loss, skin integrity, dehydration and/or severe constipation.
  • Identify and monitor residents at nutritional risk, assuring all appropriate steps are taken to implement residents care plans.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


  • Registration as Dietitian by the American Dietetic Association.
  • BS degree and completion of 9-18 months of internship with an RD, LD to obtain and fulfill requirements for registration or MS & requirements for registration.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS or masters degree and completion of approximately 9-18 months or fulfill requirements to obtain registration.
  • Successful completion of RD exam.
  • Knowledge of: Therapeutic diet planning; Ability to: organize and schedule work; establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with others; prepare and maintain dietetic charts and nutritional histories in the prescribed time frame according to state and federal regulations.
Special Requirements/Conditions of employment:
  • Certified dietitian for the State of Washington.
  • Pass criminal background check every two years.
  • Clear Annual TB testing.
