The registered dietitian (RD) 2, collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to provide specialized nutrition care that is integrated with the overall goals of care for adult and/or pediatric patients at risk for nutrition problems in inpatient and outpatient settings. The RD in this classification works in inpatient or outpatient pediatric and adult settings to provide nutrition care for patients with a wide range of clinical problems. Primary responsibilities include nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention, and evaluation of clinical outcomes; mentorship of other RDs; coordination of daily work for dietetic technician(s) (DTR) assigned to the area; leadership in compliance, department projects, and quality performance improvement efforts; active involvement or leadership on interdisciplinary teams and committees; and contributions to the supervision of dietetic interns, teaching assigned classes, and development of internship curriculum for assigned area. The RD maintains professional competence and continuing education per regulatory requirements.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

Department Description

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. The clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly 230 non-physician FTEs, 90+ cost center, and dozens of grant and philanthropic funding sources. At the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center we are truly pioneering care and leaders in all areas of cancer clinical care and research. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university
  • Successful completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice experience, approved or accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). A majority of the clinical training must have taken place in a large teaching hospital.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD)
  • Certification in the nutrition specialty area (see Required Licenses/Certifications section)
  • California Children’s Services (CCS) paneled if working in pediatrics or ability to obtain at the time of hire
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical dietetics experience beyond completion of clinical training.
  • Experience teaching and supervising dietetic interns or other students
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; to understand and be understood in English
  • Ability to adapt to changes in work duties and hours and days of work, including work on weekends and holidays across multiple campuses
  • Experience with using computers for daily tasks and communication
  • Flexible and organized in problem-solving, utilizing resources, meeting deadlines, and setting and adjusting priorities without daily supervision.
  • Motivated, resourceful and self-sufficient in routine work and improving clinical operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Majority of work experience in a large teaching hospital and in areas of specialization (e.g. pediatrics, adult critical care, ambulatory specialty areas)
  • Evidence of mentoring other dietitians
  • Fluency in a second language

License/Certification

  • Registered Dietitian (RD)
  • Specialty credentials related to job assignment. Examples: Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian/Clinician (CNSD/C), Certified Specialist in Pediatrics (CSP), Certified Specialist in Oncology (CSO) or other specialist credential obtained through the Commission on Dietetic Registration, Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) or other applicable credential that requires an examination and periodic re-examination or documented CEUs.
