Digital Content Accessibility Specialist

Access Ingenuity is expanding our team and looking for a Digital Content Accessibility Specialist. The successful candidate must have experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro and MS Office. Most importantly, the candidate must have an interest in learning about disabilities and the technology used by people with disabilities – especially screen readers (i.e. JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) in order to properly create and remediate accessible digital content. Excellent communication skills, relationship building skills, and creative problem-solving skills are also a must.

Access Ingenuity’s mission it to help people with disabilities access digital content such as websites, documents, videos, and learning materials. In order to do this, our digital accessibility team works closely with clients to structure there documents, etc. for accessibility and our assistive technology team offers a wide variety of assistive technology devices and and training to help people with disabilities access accessible content and maintain their independence. We have a highly experienced and motivated professional staff. Our office is in Santa Rosa, California, in the heart of Northern California’s wine country. Access Ingenuity is a small business, and flexibility as well as the willingness to learn are key attributes we seek in our staff.

This position is our Santa Rosa office, no opportunity to work from remotely. Office hours are Monday to Friday during normal business hours.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create alternate format documents – typically audio CDs and large print.
  • Review videos for accessibility.
  • Assist in the creation of image descriptions.
  • Create and test accessible documents (typically PDF) from PDF, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the installation and setup of assistive technology software onto computers for clients with disabilities.

The ideal candidate will possess...

  • Able to type 40-50 WPM
  • Experience in Adobe Acrobat Professional and MS Office products.
  • Excellent PC aptitude and knowledge
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple projects efficiently
  • Strong ownership and initiative – self-starter and finisher
  • Good judgment – the ability to make good decisions independently combined with the ability to ask for advice or assistance when necessary.
  • Stable work history including strong attendance and work ethic.

Education and Career Experience:

  • BA/BS from a 4-year university or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated communication skills; must comprehend client needs and effectively communicate information across all organizational levels.
  • Eloquent and effective writing skills.
