The Director of Operations – Global Fabrication is responsible for leading the creation and implementation of innovative technology and processes solutions that enhance Generac’s fabrication and paint capabilities globally. They will be responsible for developing a technology, capacity, and process roadmap, creating global equipment standards and justifying Capital Expenditures, partnering with design engineering to improve DFM in fabrication and welding, implementing robust OEE improvement activities, determining equipment capacities, optimizing production among existing facilities, and developing strategic outsourcing relationships. The Director will ensure efficient use of capital equipment and automated systems and will promote a culture of LEAN to eliminate waste and drive sustained continuous improvement across fabrication and paint operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Project Management
- Drive and project manage major strategic safety, capacity, quality, cost initiatives with aggressive focus on breakthrough process and technology improvements to achieve substantial competitive advantage.
- Works collaboratively with design engineering on existing products and NPI projects
- Coordinate activities and implement standards across multiple facilities in various regions.
Management
- Design and direct the work of the functional area. Select, coach, inspire, motivate, and develop team while setting objectives that align with company strategy. Manage organizational talent through performance management, succession planning, and individual development. Designs and directs processes by which team and individual performance are recognized and feedback is consistently delivered and performance is systematically improved.
Process Improvement
- Support strategic operational planning
- Develop and implement methods and procedures designed to eliminate waste
- Research and evaluate new technologies and breakthrough processes to accelerate competitive manufacturing advantage wile meeting customer product requirements;
- Lead cross-functional teams to improve production processes to support product strategy and product roadmap
- Drive improvements in safety, quality, yield, scrap, productivity, and operating cost through KPI performance management.
Cost Reduction
- Work toward improving (reducing) the cost structure in Manufacturing consistent with company objectives;
- Lead, coordinate and/or support the introduction of new/revised products, including the determination of design feasibility, tooling and equipment requirements, production processes and procedure, estimated labor cost, and technical documentation
- Lead/coach site VSMs on DFM processes
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience;
- 10 years of proven related experience in a similar working environment;
- 5 years of increasing responsibility for project and people management involving a broad range of operational technologies and processes;
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Engineering or Industrial Technology degree;
- Advanced degree;
- Experience working in an international company and in matrix organizations;
- Multi-site global manufacturing experience;
- Previous experience using SAP or equivalent ERP;
- Experience with fabrication and paint equipment;
- Previous experience in Automation implementation
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Exceptional knowledge in sheet metal fabrication, welding, and powder paint
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM) expertise
- Production schedule optimization methods
- Proficiency in automated fabrication systems and capital equipment maintenance
- Ability to collect and analyze data and information to solve problems and improve processes
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects with shifting priorities and moving deadlines
- Ability to manage strategic and tactical issues by being hands-on
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills
LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE:
- Direct reporting relationship to VP of Operations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting; close vision and ability to adjust focus. Up to 20% regional and international travel and Driver’s License required.
