THE ROLE
The Commercialization Director ensures that all commercialization efforts are executed effectively and efficiently assuring delivery on time and within budget. The Commercialization Director is responsible for developing and maintaining high standards to represent our brands to all potential outlets. They will do this by establishing best in class commercialization methodologies, standards, and tools. This individual will have a high level of communication skills to enable effective updates to Executive Management on all commercialization programs. The Director of Commercialization oversees the commercialization management process including governance, team leadership, monitoring, prioritization, communication, and quality controls. The Director of Commercialization should have a proven track record of successful project delivery, an ability to improve project management practices and substantial team leadership experience with a focus on team development in government contracting or not for profit entities.
YOUR TASKS
- Governance:
- Establish the Commercialization role and create a Center of Excellence in alignment with Project Management Institute (PMI) guidelines, quality standards and company requirements.
- Seek implementation efficiencies to meet or exceed the financial expectations established at project initiation.
- Develop, implement, and govern program management processes, dashboards, templates, policies, and metrics.
- Monitor compliance with project policies and standards.
- Manage all aspects of the commercialization process to include government, regulatory project deliverables and tasks.
- Team Leadership:
- Coach and mentor commercialization management practitioners and share knowledge of best practices.
- Establish the organizational structure, hire, and manage project staffing requirements in line with project and/or program objectives.
- Coordinate project deliverables with Commercialization Managers, Analysts, Market Leads, Regional Directors, and support contractors in a direct and indirect reporting structure.
- Set annual performance targets for direct reports and conduct performance reviews.
- Oversee Commercialization Managers for the delivery of projects/programs on time, within scope and on budget.
- Prioritization:
- Provide executive leaders with the information needed to assess and decide which proposals have the highest potential value, impact, and strategic alignment.
- Interface with executives to define project priorities, implementation opportunities, challenges and communicate project risks and opportunities.
- Identify and provide feedback through 1:1s, effective use of personal development plans and provisions of coaching & development opportunities.
- Continually develop improvements and embed successful change projects.
- Drive issue resolution by partnering with other departments as necessary.
- Establish, update, and enforce all necessary policies, procedures, and processes.
- Determine an effective organization structure with appropriate staffing.
- Develop appropriate cadence and dashboards to provide all levels of the organization the appropriate level of communication on KPI’s established by level.
- Create and implement leadership development plans for commercialization managers.
- Ensure appropriate succession planning for entire team.
- Lead effective collaboration across functional groups like sales, supply chain and others to ensure functional connectivity in support of clear business objectives.
YOUR EXPERIENCE
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree; manufacturing, engineering, or related field.
- 3-5+ years of leadership experience within a similar role
- CPG experience required
- 7+ years of project management experience preferred.
- PMP or PJMP highly desired.
- Skilled at managing project deliverables and timelines.
- Excellent ability with identifying sources of funding and business development opportunities.
ADDITIONAL QUALITIES
- Expert-level knowledge of project/commercialization and change management, methodologies, techniques, processes (e.g., Project and Portfolio Management Methodology - PPM).
- Budget, cost, and profitability management skills.
- Knowledge of resource management tools.
- High-level of communication, interpersonal skills to cultivate and maintain relationships with the entire organization.
- Excellent judgment with proven ability to identify problems and deal with complex issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly on challenging, complex, and difficult issues to develop solutions that address root causes.
- Ability to develop and deliver training to small and large groups.
- Ability to influence without authority.
- Flexible, adaptable, and resourceful when managing changing timelines and multiple deliverables.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to establish and manage a high-performance team.
- Motivated to build relationships at executive levels with customers, and vendor groups.
- Analytical and process-oriented mindset
