Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position’s primary function is to direct comprehensive housing, health, and safety services for international students. The position is responsible for housing placement, arrival, move-in, and orientation for international students staying in a Green River College (GRC) host family or at the college’s student housing - Campus Corner Apartments. The position oversees and manages all aspects of the GRC host family program. Reporting to the Vice President of International Programs and Extended Learning (IPEL), this position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), serves as a member of the college’s Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and contributes to campus leadership to support advancement of the College’s goals and priorities and fulfillment of its equity-centered mission.

Position Responsibilities

IP Housing

  • Provide leadership to oversee the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of International Program’s (IP) outstanding, comprehensive, student-centered housing program.
  • Develop living and learning experiences focused on cultural understanding, personal growth, and student success.
  • Deliver housing placement, arrival, move-in, and orientation for international students living with a GRC host family or in Campus Corner Apartments (CCA).
  • Develop and manage the host family program to include recruitment, vetting, orientation, training, monitoring host families as well as resolving issues according to the IP housing procedures.
  • Partner with GRC Foundation and CCA contracted onsite management and upper leadership to support a vibrant resident life experience
  • Provide housing services for international students enrolled in any college academic program as well as international customized, contract, and grant programs.

Health and Safety

  • Respond to medical, safety, and security emergencies (some of which may be outside of regular working hours) and to international students in personal crisis as needed.
  • Working within GRC policies and procedures, serve as departmental representative in emergency situations and exercise independent judgment while maintaining communication with appropriate department representatives and supervisors.
  • Provide behavioral intervention, case management, and resource referral to international students including counseling, mentoring, mediation, problem solving and policy violations, in collaboration with the (BIT) and IP.
  • Work with appropriate on- and off-campus college officials to resolve any issues regarding health/safety, facilities, privacy, medical care, or conflict involving international students.
  • Review Red Flag Alerts and Safety Incident Reports and follow-up with students involved.
  • In collaboration with the International Housing Manager and the IP Management Team, provide 24/7 emergency coverage for international students.
  • Provide expert input on admission decisions for international students Using knowledge and familiarity of immigration regulations as well as living and learning accommodations

Management

  • Establish a positive environment that is student-centered and supports equity, inclusion, innovation, and teamwork.
  • Hire, train, manage, supervise, evaluate performance, and support professional development of full- and part-time classified and exempt staff in keeping with relevant contractual agreements.
  • Manage international housing, health, and safety budgets.
  • Ensure institutional, state, and federal policies and regulations are followed as they apply to IP, CCA, and host families.
  • Partner with Student Life and CCA on-site management to provide cultural competency training for Resident Assistants.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate and maintain positive, effective working relationships with various areas, departments, and community organizations that impact the international student housing experience, including: GRC Foundation Vice President, GRC LLC Board, Capstone Management, CCA Director, Student Affairs Vice President, Student Conduct Officer, Behavioral Intervention Team, Director of Safety, Contract Manager for Safety, Sound Transit Board, City of Auburn, and local medical facilities and law enforcement.
  • Serve as lead for CCA Coordinating Council.
  • Serve as member of the campus Clery Committee.
  • Lead weekly IP Housing team meetings.
  • Serve as a member of the following IP teams: Enrollment, Marketing, Orientation.
  • Collaborate with IP Marketing Team and GRC College Relations Office to develop and maintain housing program recruiting and marketing materials, including the housing website, host family newsletter and printed documents.
  • Prepare written reports as necessary.

International Programs and Campus Leadership

  • Serve as member of the IP Operations Team, a facilitated self-directed work team, to coordinate and manage IP operations.
  • Serve as member of the IP Management Team to contribute to IP strategic planning and development of policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Contribute to campus leadership to support advancement of the College’s goals and priorities and fulfillment of its equity-centered mission.

Qualifications

  • Experience living, traveling, or studying abroad.
  • Experience with student housing, either a host family program and/or residential housing.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with tenant landlord laws, residential leasing agreements, contract law, and managing rental properties.
  • Ability to intervene with students experiencing behavioral issues and connect them with appropriate wrap-around services
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate with others on campus and in the community.
  • Experience and proven ability to hire, supervise, train, evaluate performance, and lead a team.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and management skills.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets
  • Demonstrated knowledge of emergency response protocols for international students.
  • Demonstrate intercultural competency with experience, expertise, and commitment to equity in working with students, communities, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds, identities and intersections.
  • Familiarity with current technology including MS Office and social media.
  • Ability to work within legal and ethical guidelines for WA state higher education institutions.
  • Availability to respond to emergent student situations 24/7.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must have the ability to sit for prolonged period of time at a desk/computer workstation.
  • Frequent repetitive arm, hand, and finger motions.
  • Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screen in performing work assignments
  • Work in an office setting with frequent interruptions.
  • May need to carry, lift or move equipment/supplies up to 10 lbs.
  • Work schedule: Standard work hours are between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with flexible scheduling to meet student needs which may include early morning, evening and weekend hours.
  • Be available for occasional domestic and international travel.
  • Able to work at Green River College’s main campus in Auburn, the primary work location for this position.
  • Term of Position: 12 months.
