General Statement of Job

The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform intermediate facility maintenance and janitorial work in the cleaning and care of some Town buildings and surrounding area, and the setting up and breaking down of facilities for recreation programs, classes, and special events.

This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures. The individual will determine how and/or when to complete tasks.


Work Schedule

Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM (occasional odd hours and weekends)

All new employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. A conditional offer of employment may then be made contingent upon the successful completion of a physical exam that includes drug testing.

This is a Non-Exempt position

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent most of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Essential Functions:

Custodial Duties:

Cleans and maintains buildings and peripheries, including maintenance of floors by stripping, cleaning, waxing, buffing, gutter leaf, and trash collection.

Performs housekeeping duties such as dusting, cleaning, disinfecting, sweeping, vacuum cleaning, replacing, and replenishing supplies, washing walls and windows, and cleaning restrooms.

Checks schedule for daily/weekly programs/activities; and prepares rooms as needed.

Sets up, breaks down and moves tables, chairs and other equipment for classes and events.

Facility Duties:

Visually inspect and test machinery to detect malfunction.

Handles monthly maintenance and safety inspection.

Inspects, repairs, and maintains any in-house facility needs for the Vienna Parks and Recreation Department, this includes a general knowledge but is not limited to carpentry, electrical, plumbing and HVAC maintenance.

Works with DPW in conjunction with outside contractors to ensure all construction, repair and maintenance specifications are met.

Oversee the proper operation of all mechanical systems for the recreations facilities.

Evaluate equipment breakdown and conduct basic mechanical/electrical troubleshooting.

Procurement of maintenance and repair supplies and maintain replacement and spare parts for the facility and equipment.

Service the equipment as needs arise and following supervisors’ instructions.

Manages the maintenance and schedules contractors.

Maintains long term preventative maintenance plan.

Maintains accurate and complete records of preventative maintenance activities.

Checks and reviews safety, fire and building codes; clearly marks areas undergoing maintenance work.

Always maintains security of building.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals.

Performs inventory of supplies.

Operates various equipment including floor cleaners, floor varnisher, leaf blower, drills, vertical lift, vacuum cleaner.


Additional Duties
:

Picks up trash in and around buildings.

Provides back-up support.

Performs related work as assigned.
